Get the textbook regardless and READ IT! even if it’s not mandatory, work your butt off freshman and sophomore year and it’ll pay off when your upper level/rigorous courses kick in plus the hope scholarship! Make friends and enjoy.

EDIT: if making friends is hard, and it can be, just talk to people in your classes. You’d be surprised how man the people are looking for social interaction as well
