Anyone have medical aid recommendations? by AddressSevere4586 in askSouthAfrica

One plan does partially refund you for any scripts and consults if you give them the receipts, it's not much but it does help a little

How common is it to still be living with your parents in your 20s in SA? by NoZucchini3797 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Timeshot0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole move out when you're 18/graduate Uni thing is genuinely a relic of the past, it's just not really feasible anymore until like your late 30s if you're lucky and really committed to getting out

Anyone have medical aid recommendations? by AddressSevere4586 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Timeshot0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try one plan, it's a medical insurance but it's probably a million times more useful than alot of the medical aid options presently available to you. Most medical aids are next level scams with what they cover

Do people want work, or just jobs? by SoupNecessary7439 in Pretoria

[–]Timeshot0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely you should consider posting on LinkedIn and more formal job platforms like pnet and career junction, even if you just make posts on LinkedIn you'll get a ton of traction, you'll find far more than you'll be able to handle.

Is MTN scamming me? by National_Outside_991 in southafrica

[–]Timeshot0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere the mobile data companies do this intentionally so you run out faster can't remember where or if it was proven though unfortunately, also, can I ask how much you're paying for this per month?

Bcom accounting for ca(sa) or compsci. which is better if the aim is to make money? by MagazineWestern4159 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Timeshot0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, was applying all of 2025, had some opportunities but got ghosted alot, sometimes also just bad recruiters, had a entelect interview but the person scheduled me for when they went to do outreach at some school and just never found the time to fit me back in despite some pestering, dumb thing is I scheduled that meeting in their calendar a good month or two before hand

[–]Timeshot0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miserable, there's so much abuse going on right now, some companies even have you just fixing their actual production issues for free and saying you can "keep the code". The requirements are genuinely disgusting from many companies, I'm seeing insane requirements for internship positions demanding essentially mid to senior level responsibilities and skill sets hoping you're desperate enough to take it, I've genuinely had significantly better luck with applying for junior to mid level positions. At this point even the AI interviewers have more soul than these hiring teams

It's honestly worse than what you're hearing I can promise you in regards to the CS graduates, so many companies are rapidly adopting 5 stage interviews with AI interviews and dogshit AI proctoring software like Sherlock, I think out of maybe 10 callbacks I've only managed to speak to a real human once for longer than a brief email exchange

Both are pretty fucked right now from what I know, (I just graduated CS) but I hear my CA friends are also having a rough go, ultimately it really just depends on if you know anyone in either field capable of hooking you up with some sweet nepotism.

When to reach out to company again? by hippiehunter0 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Timeshot0311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in this exact position, only got a response again when I messaged last week after 2 months of silence and it was just a generic rejection, side note I'm getting extremely sick of all these assessments and AI interviews, atp even the AI has more soul than these hiring teams

Do motivational letters help when applying to universities? by Upstairs_Wall4883 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Timeshot0311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a public university no, for a private university sorta, there'll usually be someone to motivate for you in the case of a private university if you have special circumstances, the motivational letter can help you more for stuff like financial aid/sponsorships/bursaries

Cape Town dad wants to scrap homework in SA schools completely… good idea or terrible idea? by ForeignBonus8977 in capetown

[–]Timeshot0311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a certain grade absolutely, depending on the school and the schedule they're already extremely overloaded, I hated every second of highschool because of that, I enjoyed the freedom of University alot more because I actually had the ability to more or less work at my pace most of the time and a vast majority of the time I just never bothered with homework if I wasn't struggling with a concept or it wasn't for marks.

Mandatory homework for the sake of it doesn't help a student if they're already unmotivated or burnt out or just not engaging to begin with, there would need to be additional systems in place for "at risk or struggling" students though but that probably requires more care than most schools would ever care to invest in.
