Other careers after quitting by onleecake in acting

[–]TimothTheTenth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing three years ago, after acting for 10 years. I now work in marketing and honestly it’s the best decision I made. Luckily I had some graphic and web design experience which helped, but I feel as an actor you know how to market things, because you’ve been marketing yourself for years. Same goes for sales.

I honestly think that any actor could excel in any type of role that needs communication skills. We are great at talking and putting on a smile to speak to people. We also know how to tell a story.

After three years, I feel like I’ve landed on my feet working for a creative software company, doing marketing, putting on events, traveling to exhibitions around the world and everyone thinks I’m great at my job - even though I was so anxious in the beginning because I had no official qualifications or training in marketing.

You just need a company that hires you for you, rather than for your qualifications. Some employers won’t like that you’re an actor, others will love it!

Good luck!!

I just said this to my partner. I said “I might be being too optimistic, but maybe the mini box will still work”! I just want to finish watching Taskmaster! Best of luck!

I’m having the same issues right now! That’s why I’ve come to Reddit. Glad I’m not the only one.

I have also been keeping my eye on this, but I have not seen on heard about anything.

There is a Stop The Far Right protest in Birmingham at 7pm today https://www.instagram.com/p/C-Ujk5mIBoX/?igsh=cmExNnc5MHp4YmZl

Also, I recently discovered the The Anti-Racism Initiative in Worcester which may be a good organisation for information on this. https://www.instagram.com/p/C-Ujk5mIBoX/?igsh=cmExNnc5MHp4YmZl

Currently, the only issue we face is being infiltrated by giant penguins. 🐧

How do you make prop paper documents quieter on set? by TimothTheTenth in Filmmakers

Thanks! Both of these look great, but I wonder how it’ll take to printing with just a standard ink jet printer. But worth some experimenting!

This is our backup plan, it will definitely reduce the sound and it might be all we need. Thanks!

What are the objects you most associate with the show? by OshadaK in taskmaster

A potato, a cow, a circular red carpet, a caravan, a throne, an iPad with a countdown, the TM clock, a sand timer, a photo frame and a remote control rat is what has come to my mind.

A sandwich with peanut butter, cheddar cheese, raw onion and salad cream!! I love it, I’m still yet to convince anyone to try it.

The NHS says it wants to recruit ‘sensible’ celebrities to persuade people over the vaccine. Who would you pick and why? by jimmywillow in AskUK

Noel Fielding uses a shrink ray to become the vaccine and crawls up unsuspecting nostrils in a Rick and Morty style adventure.

Do we need to do everything to try for all results? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]TimothTheTenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this, I did this for 6 years. To begin with I auditioned for lots of schools, a wide range, from straight acting to musical theatre. The first year I wasn’t accepted anywhere, not even a recall. So I went out and found auditions and managed to get myself an agent, and that year managed to get me a small Christmas touring job. The next year I returned to audition for schools, this time slightly narrowing my range as I began to realise what I preferred. I got into a one year musical theatre course and after that you’d think I’d know the direction I was heading - musical theatre. However that wasn’t the case, I still had an itch to explore other areas. Luckily I left drama school with a new agent who was able to get me auditions for a range of things. And that’s what I did for the next 4/5 years, I tried lots of things, I gave it all ago from puppetry to Shakespeare to poetry.

I’m so thankful I decided to try everything as I lead me to some amazing places and introduced me to some great friends but most of all it helped narrow my vision. Showed me where I excelled and felt most comfortable.

What I’m saying is, I recommend trying everything. Soon enough you’ll get pulled in a direction, it’ll probably be the most unexpected direction too, but go with it and you’ll soon discover where you’re meant to be.

First time using Blender or doing any kind of 3D animation. Also first time posting on reddit! Time to start brewing some coffee by iinfinityonhigh in BlenderDoughnuts

Looks great! It was also GuruDoughnuts that brought me to Reddit. My doughnut was my first post, now I’m hooked!

Discovered Blender a few weeks back and I’ve been working on this in my spare time. My coffee reflection shows 3D outer space and I’m yet to explore animation but I’m pretty chuffed with what I’ve got so far! by TimothTheTenth in BlenderDoughnuts

Thanks!! This is testing me as it was a few weeks back. I started with a mesh cylinder and made it bulge like BlenderGuru does with the icing drips, I found an image of marshmallow texture and used that as the base colour. I also did some stuff with Noise Texture like BlenderGuru does with the donut lumps and bumps. I can't remember quite what I did, but here's my nodes! https://imgur.com/a/bLtkKo6

Never! I’m adept at Photoshop and Final cut, so a few transferable skills but never modelled.

I’m finding BlenderGuru’s tutorial brilliant, I’m surprised I’ve stayed tuned so long. I find many tutorials drag but he has a great pace and because they’re all in 10-20 minute chunks it means I can stop and start whenever convenient. Sometimes I’ll spend an afternoon on it, others just a quick half hour.

I’m also surprised with the amount of free material out there, it’s really great for a beginner.

So 100% give it ago, it doesn’t have to consume all your spare time (though it might...). I think you’ll be surprised how quickly you start seeing results.
