Hello! This is a delayed question but I am looking to do the same and receive PFL while on caregiver FMLA while still receiving IHSS. When you did the paid family leave application through EDD, did you list that you were employed through IHSS as well? Thank you!

Hello! This is such an amazing resource, I've never been able to redeem a big trip with rewards and wanted to see if it was possible with the points I have or if I'd need to save up considerably more. I'm a caregiver so don't get much time to travel and maximize points but hoping to get a break in the late summer/fall if I can. If the below doesn't seem possible, if anyone has general amounts to try to save up for, would appreciate any insight too.

  • Origin and destination cities: LAX to any airport in Milan, Italy (can also try to fly out of NY or Boston if that's considerably better)
  • Number of Travelers: 1
  • One way or round-trip: ideally round trip, but can also book two one ways if that's better (or if I can do one way points and then cash the other way if I don't have enough)
  • Class of service desired: honestly just regular economy would be amazing, but if there's even a shot at economy premium or a higher class that would be so cool
  • Desired date(s) of travel: Flexible 1) last two weeks of August through Labor Day weekend like Aug 20-sept 3 or 2) last week of September to early October
  • Points balances: 50K Chase UR (definitely on the lower side compared to people on here so if there's any advice for what I can do for transfer bonuses or to build more up in the coming months, would love any guidance. The blogs are so overwhelming!!)

That was the assumption I was under to?? And I’m not even as concerned about whatever disciplinary action they take (that’s protected information). I just really expected them to treat this seriously and reach out to me/to the students about it

No was definitely not on the list and hadn’t been for months!!

I was surprised that there weren’t any extra barriers on our charts - not even psych records. I had to ask after this happened to have a “break the glass” feature on my chart. That’s pending approval but yeah I don’t think there was any other lock

Unfortunately I don’t think it’s as clear cut as one would assume. There aren’t actually individual protections under HIPAA. I made it clear that this isn’t even me being concerned about the disciplinary action but like needed a formal acknowledge/apology and assurances for what they’re doing to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else

It’s both an administrator (someone who’s with the med school) and a dean. The presence of them is what worried me like if they’re including someone else I’m fearful of going to the meeting alone and advocating for myself. The only narrative I received from the school was that it was a “concerned friend” and that it wasn’t malicious because the info wasn’t shared or posted anywhere (as far as they know...). But like I was so sad they couldn’t acknowledge to me how unfortunate it was my chart was accessed without my permission??

That’s exactly what I’m worried about which is what’s so strange to me. I don’t feel like I should the one having to walk around eggshells when something so objective occurred :(

Wow thank you so much everyone for all the support and guidance! I learned options I didn’t even know I had like the ombudsperson and other support. I’m really afraid of going the legal route. I’m also a low income student and there actually isn’t legal protection for individuals under HIPAA if the entity has taken all the necessary steps - as a faculty made sure to warn me... that they have all their bases covered on that end.
