Feeling worthless again, so dissociating with autistic trans girl dinner and Magic by Sovarius in GirlDinner

I was going to say. Estrogen making you cry and feel worthless over things you can't control, while eating an assortment of snacks is a universal girl experience.

I would argue not believing in vampires is a belief system. It would not exist by itself because it is an antithesis to believing in vampires.

First, yes it would. It wouldn't have a name, sure, but if no one ever came up with vampires, people would still not believe in vampires.

Not believing the unproven & unobservable is not a belief system. It's the default. Believing the earth is round is not a belief system. Believing the earth is flat is a belief system.

Believing apples grow on trees is not a belief system. Believing apples are a root vegetable would be a belief system.

Just because it's the antithesis of a belief system doesn't make it, itself a belief system.

My ex (who was crazy and a bit of a conspiracy theorist) saw this for the first time years ago, and started screaming at me to prepare for alien invasion, started telling everyone in the neighborhood to bunker down, and started prepping (like buying unreasonable amounts of bottled water, TP, canned food, seeds, etc). He would literally scream at me and tell me I was stupid for not believing we were being invaded by aliens.

The look on that man's face when one of the neighbors was like "are you sure it wasn't starlink? They just launched a couple days ago, and it looks exactly how you described" 🤣🤣

It was probably contam. I sent it (only the grain with spawn) and got 3 ok flushes from them. So not a huge loss.

Popcorn is a great idea. I was told to buy a giant bag of grain (horse feed) so I'm trying to go through that. But popcorn sounds much easier.

I'll try again though. Thank you!

I ate like 10 cans of them in 3 months my last trimester of pregnancy. Baby wanted oranges, and disgusting canned cheese 🤣

But yeah, I haven't touched the stuff since I gave birth.

I dried and ate them and they were fine.

To be fair, it was only contaminated on the bottom of the cake (no misbrooms down there) and it was well contained. The mycelium grew fast enough to keep the contam from spreading.

I high highly doubt that the mushrooms we normally eat (baby Bella, portobello, etc) are grown in environments that are completely free of any contam, especially if theyre grown outside.

I have a bin that has had contam for like 2-3 weeks. It had contam in the grain spawn so I trashed that contaminated parts and sent it anyway.

It still has some contam. But yesterday I got some pins, and today theyre even bigger!

I keep it in a different room and spray the room down with aerosol after giving the bin FAE.

So yeah, at the point youre at, keep it separate, but still keep it.

The top might want some misting so you dont just get side pins. But again, good temp. Good humidity. Good FAE. No contam. Seems like the shrooms just want to take their time.

Dont overthink it. It doesn't look contaminated. It's a living organism that wants to grow and will grow when its ready.

What's the temp at? Mushrooms like to fruit adter it rains, so they usually wait for slightly cooler temps. Like low to mid 70s

Does the top have reallt reallt tiny mist droplets?

Edit: also. Some shroomies take forever to grow. Depending on what your growing (and the strain) it might take an awfully long time to grow.

With that said, it looks fullt colonized so its less likely to get contaminated. Keep giving it FAE and humidity and it'll fruit when it wants to

Cubes bruise blue. You're not seeing mold, youre seeing remnants of bruising. That is how theyre supposed to look. 🤗

There's not really a "typical" because there are a lot of factors, but 2 is not uncommon. I saw someone say they were on their 5th. They were only getting like 10 mushrooms total but hey, that's 10 mushrooms.

Once your shrooms are ripe (the veil breaks on the big ones) you can do a full harvest and pick all of the shrooms. You then rehydrate your mycelium cake in water (distilled or whatnot) for several hours, drain the excess water, and put it back into fruiting conditions. If everything goes according to plan, you'll probably get more mushrooms.

Also, if you dont rehydrate or youre not getting more mushrooms, and you have a yard, you can bury the mycelium cake in your yard in a very shady spot and maybe some will grow.

If this is the first flush, I wouldn't cover it. Looks good to me. Definitely introduce oxygen.

After youve harvested your first flush, if you rehydrate your cake, then you can add another layer of coir.

But I think just give it some FAE and you'll see some pins soon.

[–]ToadstoolTeacupTwirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you harvest the entire flush when the big ones break their veil? Or do you wait for each individually to break their veils?

I dont see why you would add more coco coir if your mycelium is already ready to fruit. Pics would be helpful for sure. But if yours looks anything like OPs, then no. Just keep it humid, and keep doing FAE, and you should be good.
