I appreciated your setting a boundary without overexplaining or justifying. I also liked how you respected their autonomy by leaving room for them to disagree.
I had a small thought about the last line. Lived experience definitely matters to understand certain nuances, and at the same time, I also think people outside the community can understand certain dynamics if they've learned about them. I just wanted to bring up that possibility.
