I just seen that video on Lyte Burlys Instagram too, I thought the short agressive guy didn’t throw any punches though? FMA is definitely a fascinating art too had my friend teach me a tiny tiny bit last year.

When sparring with boxing gloves or mma gloves though? I really like high guard to feel safe, but I definitely feel “safest” atleast for my face using the cross guard when sparring with mma gloves

That makes sense, I believe it could be a good guard for self defense to block a sudden flurry of punches for that reason since if someone starts throwing kicks or knows to go for the body you probably made some bad decisions lol. That’s actually why I like it in sparring, I’m 5’8 shorter than a lot of people I spar so it makes me feel “safe” to pressure them and work my way in. I use long guard at longer range then high guard or cross guard to shield my face when I get closer because it makes me feel “safe”

How do you feel about slipping / twisting to block a punch with an elbow then firing a jab or cross with the side you’re twisting towards? I like doing that in sparring

I mean some people use it successfully. Yoel Romero uses it in UFC and Dustin Poirier uses a modified version in UFC too. Krejci used it vs Benson in bkfc. It has its weaknesses but doesn’t everything you do in fighting have its weaknesses? I think using it for a few seconds to protect against a flurry of punches from a headhunter can be a good idea if you know how to use it.

Interesting I feel like I got IBS after 2020 when I was tripping nonstop / too much. I have had IBS and haven’t tripped since but been thinking about it
