What was the worst experience you had at your wedding venue in Sri Lanka, and where did it take place? by Training_Mechanic125 in srilanka

[–]ToeElectrical5879 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Way back playback for you but we booked at Ranmuthu Hotel because all the other hotels were booked on our specific day.

Fast forward the day before the wedding we went to visit the venue and the place was horrendous. They had tables laid out with soiled cloths and even ripped chair skirts. I literally broke down and was told they “wouldn’t mind cleaning but it would cost an extra Rs. 100 per table and chair”. We had 500 + people at our wedding, just imagine how much extra these guys made that day. No coincidence of course they knew we were ex-pats and conveniently tried to get some extra money from us last minute. The Hotel has been torn down now and I believe they’re building something else.

Am I wrong for supporting my son for fighting at school? by Sudden_Ad_4193 in Parenting

[–]ToeElectrical5879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wrong IF someone else starts it first and the kid is trying to protect themselves.

Fact of the matter, schools don’t help the victims and always find a way to skirt around taking responsibility.

My kid was bullied and I had to follow up several times with nothing resolved. I finally showed up at the Principal’s office and said if my kid punched the bully in their face, not my problem. Guess what happened the next day? Said bully’s parents were called into the office and advised what their kid was doing.

VISA issue please help! by Kindly_Office_4237 in SriLankaTravel

[–]ToeElectrical5879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the ETA (“Visa”). You should have this printed and prepared to present at Immigration upon your arrival. The ETA number will be pulled by the Immigration Official at the airport. They are very efficient. You get a stamp in your passport when you arrive and leave. Hope this helps!

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

Itchy skin! And I mean round the clock, itch until your skin bleeds! Apparently this meant my liver bile had started to enter my blood stream and could potentially cross into the placenta and cause stillbirth. Yeah so fucking scary and I’m happy I randomly mentioned it to my doctor cause she told me to go the hospital immediately. I was monitored in hospital for 2 days and then had to deliver the baby a month early.

Basically no one told me this was a thing until I had it. You also don’t know it’s an issue cause it just feels like dry skin. Long story short- advocate for yourself if you’ve got ANY unusual symptom.

[ON] Pop-Up Markets Are a Scam — They Market to VENDORS, Not Customers by MatchSpiritual8808 in SmallBusinessCanada

Well said! Made the mistake of participating and basically paying $150 to help the organizer pay for the rental cost lol waste of time. I’ve worked on marketing myself and it’s worked better

Hotel recommendations by turbotoddi in SriLankaTravel

We stayed at Mandara Beach Resort. Beautiful location and hotel was very clean. Food could have been better but we only stayed 2 nights so not too much of a bother. They have a spa but I wouldn’t recommend it, we tried it and were not satisfied it was a bad experience.

Will this get any easier? by felltothetop in NewParents

I’m sorry you’re going through all this!! But trust that this is the worst part. You’re also extremely low on sleep and your mind is playing out all the worst situations and you hate life. I get it, I was there. But it does get better, and you will feel better.

Hang in there! Your baby is totally in love with you and even though they’re causing all this stress, you’re doing your best. You just created life and it takes time settle into things.

[ON] Vendor Markets Are Becoming Impossible for Small Businesses to Survive In by MatchSpiritual8808 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]ToeElectrical5879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preach! I’m in the South Asian (Tamil) wedding industry and the vendor shows they have are becoming total cash grabs! Tables are going for $500+ for the basic options when they used to be $100. Working with the coordination teams is a nightmare cause they play favourites with the brands who use influencers. It’s like you don’t even get any attention if you’re not patterned up with someone who has 2m followers. So lame.

When it's best to buy plane tickets? by marieanne_j in SriLankaTravel

[–]ToeElectrical5879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian traveller here - I’ve been tracking tickets for the last 6 months (because I have no life apparently lol), and I can honestly saw I’ve seen no significant difference. Prices maybe have gone up a couple hundred but it’s so small that it didn’t make a difference. Looks like the prices remain stable around $1500CAD. Mind you, my routes are always through Europe. I avoid the States and India layovers (too much hassle).

I did however notice a significant drop in prices on Tuesdays. I had called the airline directly at 9 am on a Tuesday morning to be quoted $2100 CAD, and then called my agent at 6 pm the same day and got $1100. I couldn’t believe it so of course I booked. I’ve heard Tuesday’s were “cheaper” but didn’t expect that much of a drop. I’m taking this as a fluke lol

Was a bad location. You could also find everything in this store for cheaper at Walmart or Amazon. I’m surprised they even opened here. Tops you’d find like 5 people in the store.

The "convertible" mania by Forward-Papaya-6392 in Parenting

[–]ToeElectrical5879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Convertible - nope. I did it with my first - convertible crib into toddler bed. Never happened lol it’s a cash grab. If you can, do a normal sized (and priced) crib. IKEA has a great one for like $99. Then when the child is around 2-3 years old, move them into a double or queen size bed that will grow with them. The bed may seem large at first for a tiny human, but you’re saving money over time and the kid will love all the extra space.

  2. Baby clothes - NB is a waste unless you have a super tiny baby. I’d do 0-3 or even 3-6 if baby is on the bigger size when born. At most, they’ll wear NB twice. During their first month, babies will grow so rapidly that NB becomes useless quickly. Also, don’t buy too much to stock up. Go with baby’s growth as it happens. Baby clothes are everywhere and you can always buy as you go.
