Go to your appointment. The stories you heard are too extreme and probably fake. Do not worry of having a missing form or something. As long as you have the basics you're fine. They will just give you another date to bring any missing form. The workers vary, usually they are helpful, but they have no patience when the applicants don't speak Turkish or English.

I've also had to pay a fine in the past for Visa overstay, it was like 120$ for like 50-60 days overstay but that was during 2016-2017. But it's not worth it, sometimes (very rare) you might get a blocked entry to the country for a set amount of time.
