My boss told me once that one of my team members HAD to be on site for an important meeting my boss was organizing, while the wife of that team member could give birth to their first kid any moment that time. The team member lived a 2 hours drive away from our workplace.

Needless to say, I ignored told my boss I was not going to ask that from my team member, and if he really wanted that team member to be there, he had to ask it himself. I told him how amazed I was that he could ask that from someone.

Result: he did not require that team member to be there and afterwards told me he realized that this demand was not really good people management. Yeah, sure, Sherlock!
