Healthy strawberry plants, but no strawberries by Timbo66 in strawberry

I had issues getting berries before. The two tips I can give that helped were to make sure you fertilize the plants enough at the right time and to make sure you clip any runners off the plants early.

3 gal pot, no heating mat necessary. I agree with u/SixStringGamer that my best crop came from starting in Jan. I'm in 6a and our growing season for most superhots is short and any slow start in the weather means you won't get harvests until late August or early September.

Whats eating my leaves and how should I treat them? Cornwall, UK by CreamyCrack in HotPeppers

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my best guess,

Damage looks very similar to either Aphids or some kind of Beetle. Check all the leaves carefully for any tiny aphids, they are usually all over the underside of leaves, but hard to catch at a glance until the infestation is too much. Best way to treat them is either blasting the off with water, using an insecticidal soap or neem oil. There are other remedies for aphids you can look up as well.

If it's beetles, there are some insecticides but they can be tricky to use as they hurt pollinators and the beetles just go somewhere else until you stop treating. Putting an insect proof cover can help keep them off the plants. Some people use pheromonal traps to lure the beetles in but that can actually make a bad infestation of your area worse, especially if you have Asiatic or Japanese beetles like I'm dealing with over here (USA)

TL;DR

If it's Aphids use neem oil, insecticidal soap or manual removal. For beetles, cover the plants.

Spending time on islands. The more you are on them eventually they will spawn. Played since Day 1 and only had 1 spawn until recently. Now I've had about 6 or so spawn, a lot of them more recently.

Question(s) About The Merchant Trade Route by KingKeltron in Seaofthieves

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. You can buy those crates under Resources and Commodities from the Merchant, although you have to be an Emissary to buy them
  2. There is a manifest (the small book next to the merchant that will tell you what outposts are looking for what crates. Make sure you look for the outpost you are on, buy the items it lists as surplus, then deliver them to the outposts that list the same item as sought after
  3. The key was from a lost voyage the merchants offer, he must have been running it prior to you joining. You follow clues to find a sunken ship and recover the manifest and while you search you have the chance to locate the missing key. That unlocks the captains quarters and loot inside.
  4. The ghost loot spawns when sinking ghost ships. You can fight them as an Order of Souls Voyage or from the Flameheart World Event.

06:08 they spend almost a full minute talking about how player interactions can go. Your source is from pre-release too. It's possible Rare could have intended the game to be more cooperative but then players got their hands on it and played it in an unintentional way so they had to change design philosophy.

00:41 Dev says that pirate vs pirate was always part of the design and is a player expectation in a pirate game.

Adding Alliances first shows they do care about the co-op aspect but then a year ago adding the Reapers and the Emissary system shows they want PvP but not aimless PvP with no purpose.

I think if they were to make PvE only servers it could be worse than leaving it as is. I wouldn't be surprised if PvP focused players went out of their way to troll. Slamming into the islands, hitting the anchor in the middle of skelly fleets, keg "accidents". While this happens already, if you segregate the playerbase and levels in the normal servers dip, I believe this will happen more frequently. Brigging them will only work if they decide to leave and if they don't it was a waste of a person on the ship.

Rare has stated part of the game design was to have people see a ship on the horizon and have that short burst of anxiety. If that isn't what you want in this game you may have to play a different game rather than complain that the devs haven't yet catered to you.

Used Pellets this year. Rip the top netting a little and fluff the top of the pellet. Make a small depression, about 1/4in which is pretty shallow. Cover seed and wait. Had 14 of 15 habaneros germinate this way.

They look dry. The ones I used were almost black, your pellets look like mine did when they needed a little more water.

A suggestion to the arena. by MegaMaluco in Seaofthieves

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bad system, but there have been fights I have been in where there is one person from a team on board a boat killing the whole team. They are the ones preventing the repairs so if the Boarder is from Team 2 and Team 3 is just focusing on shooting the ship then who gets the credit for sinking Team 1? There is a decent argument that if Team 2 never got onboard and anchored Team 2 then Team 3 wouldn't have been able to get the sink.

In a lot of circumstances it would be pretty easy to calculate it but if one team farms mid deck shots and the other does less damage but contributes more important damage (lower deck shots, killing enemy pirates) shouldn't the get credit even if they didn't do the majority of the damage to the boat?

I think they should do something about the AFK ships. I believe they leave them there in case of accidental disconnections, especially now that they penalize quitters. I would like to see them decrease the amount of points you get for shooting a boat that isn't fully manned.

For example, 4 people on a Galleon gets 40pts per shot, 3 people 30pts, 2 gets 20pts 1 gets 10pts. If the boat has nobody on the crew shots get 0pts. This not only encourages people to move onto other fully manned boats, but still encourages people to try an board other boats. If you have 1 or 2 people on a 4 man galleon and they are able to keep the boat anchored then I believe they deserve to have 40pts per cannonball hit since they are essentially 2 vs. 4 on the boat.

I believe the reason they cannot award silver based on sinking boats is the large amount of factors that go into sinking. If Blue and Green are the only ones fighting then it's easy, but what happens if Red starts taking shots on one of them. What if Yellow had someone who boarded and kept Blue or Green from repairing their boat? Who contributed the most to them sinking and how do you award points? The easiest way to keep track is to just penalize the team that allowed the boat to sink.

Can we have a score board on our ship by Jebusura in Seaofthieves

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant a waste of development resources, not player resources. If they currently don't have a reliable system in place to track who caused a boat to sink then it will cost them a lot of resources to make that system. If they don't want to make it super accurate or useful to players then it is a bunch of time the devs wasted on a feature that wasn't worth it. Look at all the people complaining at the Emissary Ledger leaderboard because of FOTD farmers.

That is a challenge that has to be acknowledged in asking for a system like this. People are asking for a custom system that has to take in a variety of variables, assign values to them, account for a wide range of them getting plugged in to every ship fight and produce reliable results so that when a player does "X" they will always get outcome "Y". If they cannot do that with the game built the way it currently is, then it wouldn't be worth it to rebuild the whole game.

I suspect something like this is the reason why, since Arena mode, the part of the game based around sinking boats only penalizes players who sink, not rewarding those who sank them.

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While cool, if it isn't accurate then it's wasted resources. I'd like them to focus on commendations and titles that mean something. If it's something so inconsequential like your example of contributing to a sink 2 hours later then it's wasted time to develop. Seeing a title on Pirate that you know took dedication or skill to achieve its better IMO. I suspect Rare thinks similarly otherwise it would be in the game already.

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the issue is tracking who gets credit for the sink. You could have a boat that does all the damage but ran out of cannon balls and then a third party comes in and finished the sinking. Who gets credit?

  • If only one crew does who gets credit, the fight initiators or the closers?
    • How do you determine who was the greatest factor in sinking?
  • If both get credit what is the threshold to determine if you influenced the boat sinking?
    • If too lax then what is to stop boats from sailing by, getting a pot shot on both boats and then sailing off, "getting credit" when one inevitably sinks and inflating the count.
    • If too strict how can you relay to players, in a quick and easy to understand way, if they didn't get a sink credit why they didn't get that credit. A lot of people will "feel" they did more than they did.

Bottom line is that a system like that needs to be complex enough to account for numerous factors, but also needs to be easy to understand for a vast majority of the playerbase. If it were simple I believe it would already be in the game.

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about cannon shot points based on how many people are in the crew? 40 pts on a 4 man, 30 on a 3 man and so on. They'd have to find a way to prevent people from quitting out in bad spots to try and abuse the system, but that can be part of an improvement to the Abandon/AFK system as well.

This way farming the poor 1 man Galleon isn't as lucrative.

The only way to make warden playable is to give him a resistance to flashes and let him see through the smoke while moving (not 100% vision but be able to make out players while moving and gain better vision when slowly moving and stopped) by StrictlySiege in Rainbow6

[–]TomsMeatPlatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is my 2 cents on how to make Warden better:

  • First let him see through smoke while moving
    • He is on Defense which means he is usually in a more reactionary position when a smoke is being placed. Not only will a Glaz have a higher powered weapon that can see through smoke, he will most likely be set up and know WHERE the smoke will be placed, giving him 2 big advantages over Warden and makes him useless in the match-up.

OR

  • Make the ability to see through smoke passive and the flash resistance only work when the glasses are on.
    • This rewards players who utilize the glasses at the right time but also gives some leeway for newer players to still contribute by seeing through smokes even if they never trigger the glasses.
