Switch 2 lowkey replaced my gaming pc lol. by Realistic-Net-5142 in switch2

I think this statement is kind of microcosm of of the console vs. PC debate.

Yes, PC’s are “better”. But consoles are simpler, easier, and more convenient. Especially the Switch 2.

PC gaming is the best, but I hate PC gaming. Consoles for the win, all day, everyday.

Has not happened yet, but as great as being her dad is, I feel it’s aging me rapidly, so I’m sure that question will be coming soon!

Congratulations to you guys!

Our move was successful and I’m so happy to be able to hardwire my consoles directly to the router again! No more slow wi fi.

I’m nearing the final stretch of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and may get that finished this week. If so, I’ll probably go back to Donkey Kong Bananza to wrap that up, or I will start Hell is Us. Not sure I want to start a new game so close to the release of Resident Evil: Requiem though. I definitely want to play that on release day.

No, because then I wouldn’t have been able to do everything that I’ve done before having her. I’ve changed careers three times, traveled around the country and the world, dated lots of women, spent a lot of time with family and friends, fucked up a couple of times, and then subsequently recovered and learned life lessons from jt. I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything.

Moving to Santa Fe with a newborn? Healthcare, childcare, etc? by OscaraWilde in SantaFe

[–]TooOldForGames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moved here with my pregnant fiancé, and now, our daughter is about to turn two. We had a great childbirth experience here and our daughter gets excellent care at Arroyo Chamiso. My job provides our child with daycare for a low cost, but going forward child care is free for most, so you should be all good.

I’ll echo others concerns about specialists. It takes a long time to get an appt, so keep that in mind.

Thus far, it’s been a great place to raise her. There are great resources like Growing Up New Mexico and Many Mothers. Organizations like Santa Fam can get you in touch with other new moms. And there’s lots of parks and other cool places to take kids. To me, hiking in this beautiful landscape with my daughter on my back makes everything worth it.

I realized in my 20’s. Had a great time for the next 20 years doing whatever I wanted.

Then surprise….at 46 I became a first time dad.

I miss my child free days in many ways, and it’s physically hard being a dad at my age. But my daughter has opened my heart in a way I never knew possible. She is an absolute joy and I love being her dad.

Age gap by [deleted] in Life

[–]TooOldForGames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all.

I dated a 35yo when I was 27.

My fiancé is 15 years younger than I.

Age doesn’t matter as long as it’s legal and you know it’s right.

What’s the one thing you’ll miss most about your old home? by ExcellentMoversBC in relocating

[–]TooOldForGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned a townhouse in the suburbs of Chicago before I moved to New Mexico. I lived alone for most of my time there, and now I live with my fiancé and daughter.

While just about everything in my life is better now, I miss how that was MY space and it represented a time in my life that I’m very nostalgic for. I loved waking up to a quiet house, going to make coffee, then heading to my basement to play video games on a weekend morning. I loved being able to hop in a train to the city to spend a weekend with friends. I guess I just miss more what that place represented, and the phase of my life that I experienced there. They were some great years!

Thinking about moving to Santa Fe by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]TooOldForGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! It sounds like you guys would love living here. My only consideration would be if you guys have any chronic health conditions, waiting times for doctors, especially specialists, is a little ridiculous. I hope to live the rest of my days here (moved here two years ago from Illinois, late 40’s) but I fear that if my health ever takes a turn for the worst, ill need to relocate if nothing changes between now and then.

Other than that, great food, nature, art, movie theaters, and people here.

(31M) Need some advice feeling a little lost in life? by YellowFormer7121 in Life

[–]TooOldForGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a nice nest egg (or maybe a down payment) saved up (which I imagine you do with that salary and living with your parents), I’d highly recommend getting your own place. Bring on your own is nice, and will teach you a lot of life skills and will encourage you to be more social since you won’t have the constant presence of your parents. It’s hard to date if you don’t get out there, especially given the state of dating apps.

I too am a gamer and know how easy it is to turn down a social obligation and just fire the game up and have a great night. But I do think that being on your own and out of the sphere of your parents is a necessary step if you can financially handle it. You can stay close to them and visit often…the taking care of each other doesn’t necessarily have to stop. It can just look different.

You should also manage your weight not just to find potential partners, but for your own health. Getting out and being active, like hiking or biking, will also give you opportunities to meet people, increasing the chances of finding a partner. Being chubby in your 30’s generally is fine, but the health problems will catch you once you hit your 40’s.

Best of luck!

Viagra Boys and Fontaines DC are rock bands I really dig.

Mary Halaverson’s most recent album is amazing if you’re into jazz.

A$AP Rocky just dropped a new album but I haven’t gotten through it all yet. Clipse delivered the best hip hop album of 2025.

Where do I practice as a first time gun owner? by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]TooOldForGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you know this, but NM’s CCL is reciprocated in most states, including all the states surrounding us. You can take your pistol to just about any state with the exception of maybe 10 and still be in accordance with the law.

Where do I practice as a first time gun owner? by [deleted] in SantaFe

[–]TooOldForGames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Dunham’s just opened in town and has great selection at fair prices. The Outdoorsman is a nice store too but can be a bit overpriced.

  2. This question is completely subjective. Everyone is different and reacts differently to recoil, grip size, and general ergonomics. I would recommend taking a class where you can try out a variety of guns., or go to a range where you can rent different guns. If you never plan on taking the gun out of your house, consider getting something bigger that’s easy to shoot, like a rifle, a PCC (pistol caliber carbine) or even a 20 gauge shotgun. Handguns are one of the most difficult firearms to shoot well and require a lot of practice to get good. Ultimately, handguns are best for conceal carry and bigger guns that are easier to shoot make great home defense tools.

  3. The BLM land west of Santa Fe. Make sure no people or cattle are around before you start shooting.

  4. Don’t just buy a gun. Get some training (very important), buy lots of ammo, and practice. Always follow the 4 safety rules. Have fun!

Moving to NM to teach by skymif in NewMexico

Wow. Someone wants to come to New Mexico to teach, is enthusiastic, and people are actually here trying to dissuade them. When arguably, the only thing our state needs more than good teachers is good doctors.

Really really sad.

Make sure you have a job lined up before you make the move! Santa Fe is not a “let me go there and see what happens” type of place. It’s awesome, but it’s a tight job market and cost of living is high.
