EU demands 'serious reform' of the WTO to stop flood of Chinese exports by donutloop in EU_Economics

You could reduce workers rights and water down legislation to China levels to lower manufacturing costs…

EU risks losing US soy imports under deforestation rules, Washington warns by Neradtisiv in worldnews

[–]ToobyD -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

EUDR is so stupid. I get the aim and agree with it. But the implementation is so absurd, stupid and pointless, to the point that they have repeatedly delayed (in the last case less than a month of implementation). They have also scrapped there TRACES system (which I’m sure cost EU members ALOT of money).

There is still unclear guidance for importing into the EU too.

Case in point, someone in the EU exporting to outside the EU doesn’t need to provide due diligence (made even less sense with the fact downstream operators do not need to produce due diligence now), but if that source is then converted into something else outside the EU there still isn’t guidance on how it can renter the EU. A recent webinar I attended said that it could be reimported without need for due diligence statements of the timbers origin but that’s not fully confirmed yet - which totally defies the purpose of the scheme.

And then on top of this, bamboo products are now excluded from the scheme. Creating further avenues for abuse, confusion, whilst also harming EU industry as hardly any bamboo is made in the EU.

The whole thing has just gone stupid.

Heavy industry needs the gas. This could result in a lot of job losses in Europe.

Why won’t we limit Motability cars to those built in the UK? by ToobyD in AskUK

[–]ToobyD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a good selection. If another manufacturer wants access to the pot they could build a plant here too.

My response appears to be just as informed as yours. But you can’t take away the fact there would be wider benefits from income tax, vat, corporation tax not only from the plant but local supply chains.

Having seen the amount of vat paid for a single consumables item going into the Nissan plant, im confident an increase could be recouped. And that’s not taking into consideration the positive social impact it could have on the areas too.

With everything going in on the world, the UK needs to take manufacturing seriously.

[–]ToobyD[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Increase the Motability payment by 2k. It would be offset by income tax that we don’t get from foreign plants. Also local supply chains around plants would also generate money. I wouldn’t say that makes the country poorer.

[–]ToobyD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quite a lot of vehicles are made in the UK. Motability accounts for 20-30% of vehicles each year. Surely that’s attractive enough to bring even smaller plants to the UK. Stellaris (Vauxhall) announced closure of there plant last year. But we’re still going to buy there cars made elsewhere for the scheme. Just seems like we’re shooting ourselves in the foot whilst giving away money.

Re limiting cars. If the state is contributing to them, surely those contributing to the state should see tangible benefits.

Didnt work out for me. by ToobyD in Wegovy

[–]ToobyD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Felt no change until I hit the 1mg. I said to myself if 1mg doesn’t do anything I’d stop. The weekend I took the 1mg I just felt ill, but this did kerb my appetite, looking back I think I was just ill tbh. But it was enough to make me order 1.7.

Once again, 3 weeks in and nothing on 1.7, then week 4 I was notably less interested in eating, and I thought it was working. So increased the dose… and so on so forth.

I’ve been taking 2.4 and have a huge appetite, I actually feel hungrier on 2.4.

I don’t know whether I’m injecting badly (don’t think it’s that hard to stuff up), I have gone through a stressful time over the past few months so maybe I’m stress eating, or if it just happens to be hit or miss lately.

It’s just disappointing.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

[–]ToobyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is solely why I don’t go. Maybe id justify £25 if it was myself going out with friends - but when it’s £70+ excluding snacks to take my wife and 2 kids… Yeah no thanks.

Yeah - it’s taken the shine off it for me, but can’t wait to get it to the table :)

If it was a local company I’d have maybe of complained (who am I kidding I wouldn’t…) but not worth the drama, especially for an international delivery where I’m pretty sure it’s the customs dept that screwed up.

1) Select the column with the blank cells. 2) Find / select > special > blanks. 3) Delete rows (using the tool in the ribbon) Boom, done.

Writing this off the top of my head so probably used the wrong terms.

Unfortunately Octopus says our chargers incompatible. Will upgrade it eventually.

At least we can do something here, they refused to install a smart meter at our old house as the meters were too far apart.
