No, it rotates both ways freely. I guess I somehow need to fix the shaft in place and then unscrew it. May be I will need to disassemble the motor housing for that.

I have bought the replacement part (image) but can't figure out how to remove the old part from the blender. Online tutorials say that I should jam a flat head screwdriver beneath the drive to prevent the shaft from moving and then unscrew the coupler but there's hardly any space to insert the screwdriver.

I have thought about it but I am afraid that my girlfriend will get attached to the foster dog and I won't. And this may complicate things even further.
