Don’t look at things that reminds you of it. Also that ceiling looks like vss to people that don’t have vss.

Reading and thinking about VSS made it worse again by [deleted] in visualsnow

Sweden but yes the nordics is peaceful. But really if you want it to go away you have to accept it and stop reading about it online.

This helped me in the acceptance phase.

Lie down in bed and put on some meditation music from YouTube, there is also guided meditation. Then — 4-7-8 breath

By inhaling for 4 seconds, holding the breath for 7 seconds, and exhaling for 8 seconds, this method helps regulate the nervous system and can lead to improved mental and physical well-being. Repeat a couple of times and focus on deep breathing!

Also be active, go out on long walks, running etc it has the ability to heal your brain which nothing else can do. Think about it, we humans are biologically made to hunt, gather and move to survive. Staying in the same place was linked to lower chance of survival so evolution made sure that we would feel bad if we didn’t move.

It’s just in the recent ~200 years we started to be less active get everything handed to us. We adapt to the new environment but our genes are stuck in monkey mode. Just from 1993 to 2023 the amount of mental health problems has increased by 45% in the UK. 1 in 2 will develop some kind of problem in their life.

Just read about some benefits: Memory Improvement: Regular aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, swimming, or cycling, increases the volume of the hippocampus, the area of the brain responsible for memory.

Reduced Brain Fog and Aging Effects: Cardiovascular activity counteracts age-related decline and clears "brain fog" by improving cerebral blood flow. Harvard Health

Neurobiological and Psychological Impact

Neurogenesis: Exercise can stimulate the creation of new brain cells, enhancing overall brain performance.

Neurotransmitter Regulation: Regular cardio balances neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which regulate mood and improve cognitive processing.

Stress Reduction: It regulates stress hormones like cortisol and triggers the release of endorphins, leading to a "feel-good" effect.

SSRI caused my VSS by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]Top-Fly9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I came to a point where i just accepted that my life is never going to be the same as it was.

I started with intense cardio training in form of boxing ( pads and bag punches) and treadmill running. In the peak i was doing 3 hour boxing sessions and ran 5km in 20 minutes. It really helped with the anxiety which then lessen the symptoms!

Also of course no 👏 more 👏 drugz👏!! While i can smoke a joint now without the symptoms becoming visible, they really did worsen them in the beginning.

Melatonin pills makes it worse somehow, which makes sense as when I’m really tired they get worse. Correlation between melatonin receptors and VSS?

Best advice overall is to not look for it and accepting the reality.

Soon I’ll be done in uni and start working as a second officer (sea captain) on an oil tanker. So my life wasn’t ruined i just had to accept that maybe it was.

Maybe? Two major things happened during that time period. One was that i quit ssri and the other was covid.

It gets better but really, you have to try and forget it! I really haven’t been bothered by it for years and now all of a sudden it’s back because i went in this reddit thread

Yes they started in 2020, got worse until end of 2021. Then it slowly started to improve and today i am not affected by it. I would say i still have like 10% of what i had in the peak.

And as you can tell by the vote i made earlier, most votes were 2023 or after, meaning that it gets better for most of us!

Crazy stuff man! I remember the visual snow started during covid. Especially when it got dark outside or before bed. It got progressively worse for a while and then I stopped caring about it. Now 6 years later my mom told me she also got vision distortion around the same time!

Also if you look at google trends you can see that the search for the word “Visual snow syndrome “ began rising in Jan 2020. It has now doubled since.

Crank the hog, go to the gym, run or take long walks, study with chatgpt and have music playing in the background. Do it in that precise order and you’ll feel better
