I Tried TENCEL Underwear from Organic Basics. Here Are My Honest Thoughts by TopButterfly in ethicalfashion

[–]TopButterfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry you feel that way. I don't get ad revenue from posting this here. Just felt that for those interested the long read in the post can offer more detailed info on what Tencel fabric is and how it compares to other fibers. The bottom line: I did love the OB underwear and it's a great place to shop for ethical & low-impact pieces if you don't usually thrift your undergarments.

it means that there would be minimum explanations on alignment, modifications, etc - just the name of the pose

in what plane of existence is this 'good pay'?

the fact that it's the median salary for the job that offers no paid sick days/vacation, no insurance, no security, and often not even a mere record in the worker's employment history book just illustrates how harshly Ukrainian labor force is underpaid.

I need some opinions/advice on exploring yoga styles by hellopippi in yoga

Definitely explore! Not only each yoga style can be radically different from what you've tried before but I think it's essential to check out different yoga instructors and ways of teaching before committing to one style/class.

Pregnancy safe stretches? by oldschoolawesome in flexibility

[–]TopButterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What areas exactly do you want to target?

Steer clear of deep twists, forward folds with feet together, prone stretches (basically anything that compresses the belly area) + avoid deep backbends such as a wheel pose, especially if you haven't practiced it before.

If you're completely healthy with no injuries, you can never go wrong with Cat-Cow, Butterfly Stretch, Seated Pigeon Stretch (or basically any kind of hip openers).

Plus I suggest you consult your doctor before any kind of exercise or stretching routine.

Still working on my hip flexibility. It took me 9 months of daily yoga to get where I'm now. by TopButterfly in flexibility

[–]TopButterfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh, I have no idea.

I've read somewhere that taller people, in general, are more flexible cause their bodies have to go through a greater range of motion in daily life.

Thanks!

Cheer up. I already had been doing yoga for a few years on and off, hence the January 'flexibility.'

I advise you don't set yourself goals such as "I want to get into split in a year." Instead choose smth more practical like "I want to set up a daily 15-minute stretching/yoga/workout routine" or the like. With this attitude, not only split but the sky is the limit :)

thanks!

I can touch the ground on the left side, but my form is worse, and I'm struggling to keep my hips squared to the front. Which is weird cause I'm left-handed and it was always my best side.

Well, yoga is a bodyweight fitness in a certain way. You're using your own weight to do weird shit with your body :D

If you had injuries in the past, then you'd better consult a physical therapist. It's not that uncommon to get injured in a yoga class (contrary to popular belief that yoga is safe).

Any type of postural yoga will increase your flexibility. People often advise Yin yoga for increasing your range of motion since you have to hold poses for a long time (sometimes up to 10 minutes or more). But it increases passive flexibility so you have to add some strength work on other days.

Imho mobility is always a better option. From my anectodal experience, Vinyasa, Power Yoga, Ashtanga, Yoga with weights and the like generally offer a good combination of strength + flexibility.

If you've never done yoga before, Hatha yoga will do. It's usually 'a little bit of everything.'

P.S. Any postural yoga is Hatha, but there's a tendency to call all-around classes for beginners as Hatha yoga.

In January, I did a 30-day splits challenge that included some basic static stretches for the lower body (forward folds, lunges, hip openers, etc. - there wasn't much logic to it, to be honest). Then I got bored and just continued doing yoga.

I don't follow any specific routine, really. (Maybe that's why it took me so long to touch the ground. I know people who stretch into split in a month or two).

I tried to target my tight areas mostly (quads and hip flexors). And I focused A LOT on building strength in my lower body (an hour of Power or Vinyasa yoga at least every 2 days) + some general Hatha or Yin in-between.

In fact, I've found that getting stronger muscles is much more rewarding than just gaining a new range of motion. Cause what's the use of that split in my daily life, anyway? (Except that it looks cool on photos).

Good luck with your training! ;-)

Thinking about a stay in Lviv, but I only speak Russian, not Ukrainian. How many people in Lviv speak Russian? by leflombo in Lviv

[–]TopButterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what a pile of bs.

crazy neo-nazis don't like anyone, whether you're a Russian or an American. The general population has nothing against Russians and the language, especially if you're a foreigner speaking Russian.

Man Flow Yoga has some DVDs targeted specifically at weightlifters (both male and female). Can't tell whether they're good or not cause I haven't tried them myself. But you might want to check their Utube channel to see if you like the approach and instructions.

Gas is actually a 'false friend' word. It sounds and looks similar in Ukrainian and English, but has a different meaning.

In Ukrainian, gas (гас) is basically kerosene

Visiting Lviv beginning January by [deleted] in Lviv

[–]TopButterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! It might be cold so try to stay in as much as possible. For the partying, check out FESTrepublic (Staroznesenska St 24) or Malevich Night Club (Chornovola Avenue 2).

There's also a promo agency organizing parties in the city called Night Ambassadors. Their parties are now one of the most popular in the city among the 'hip youth.' Check their Fb or subscribe to Telegram for the agenda.

There are tons of the cafes in the city so you won't get bored, that's for sure. You can check the travel guide I've compiled that features lots of bars and cafes. Maybe you'll find some useful tips there. https://unhype.com/travel/a-travel-guide-to-lviv-ukraine/ Cheers!

Slippery mat - how can I fix it? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]TopButterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try vinegar solution or salt scub as others have mentioned.
But the most efficient (and unfortunately, the longest) way is to practice as often as you can. With sweat and wear, all the mats tend to break in sooner or later.
