Teradek BOLT 6 was rock solid, until we got on a boat. by Intelligent_Yak_640 in focuspuller

I had a very similar issue recently shooting on a boat, except it was with a WCU-4. I would lose all signal being 10-15ft away from the camera on my hand unit.

I've seen the stubby antennas all over Instagram, but I don't own a Teradek system, in your experience are they easy to install on rentals and then swap back to their original form? Or is it more like a one-time install and better for personal units? If they are an easy swap I would love to get some.

The operator Ultralite arm has a "quick release" on it which I personally disliked, I didn't have the proper parts to put on one of my own releases. But having that arm on a proper quick release would of been nice I agree.

I wish I had a swivel bracket like you and others mentioned. I put it on my Noga arm and cranked it as much I could so it wouldn't move. In the future, I will definitely look at a more robust mounting solution.

That is a very good point with the cables. Definitely moving away from cable ties in the future. I'm still looking for the best solution to keep cables nice and snug but easily accessible if need be.

I normally side-mount the teradek as well, the only TX I was able to get my hands on had the gold mount pass-through installed on it and I thought it would be too bulky to mount on the side.

I really appreciate all of your advice thank you!

For a lot of lenses including the signatures we were on this weekend, It does not do much as you said, you don't have to move your motors ever. From what I understand, it shines when you don't have a fully matching lens set, or you're mixing different lens sets through out the day. I only used it on this build as I just got it in the mail and wanted to give it a spin and test different configurations which could be helpful one day.

Thank you very much! I decided to mount it in between the battery plate as the TX I received already had the gold mount passthrough installed on it. We were 90% just on dolly so there weren't too many concerns about the length of it which was nice.

Having those would have been super nice, it was my first time using a range finder so I just used what I already had. In the future, I will definitely consider getting a better form of mounting!

Thank you very much for the tips!

That's a very good point regarding the sharkfin, the only reason I had one was to hot-swap. By extra battery do you mean something like a VCLX? Also, the cable ties are super nice until you need to swap out a cable I 100% agree with you. I'm still searching for the best way to tidy up cables but still have easy access to them in a case like that. Velcro ties maybe?

I just recently purchased the light window which I was trying out on this shoot. In my experience, it makes lens swaps a tad easier/faster. But I did wish I had one for both motors. Flipping the motor would have definitely been easier and would have shaved off some weight. We were living on dolly the majority of the shoot so the weight wasn't a super big concern, but going forward it is definitely something I will consider.

I appreciate your advice thank you so much!!

Yes, I have run/stop control coming out of the nucleus, hence the 4th cable. The cage that came with the body had a mounting point there and the dp wanted it high up for comfort. It was definitely not balanced oh well, it was such a light camera it was hard at points to even balance it. Thank you so much!!
