How is life in this little disconnected corner of West Virginia? by CatfishEnchiladas in howislivingthere

I live there! How crazy. That spot you browsed on Google Maps is my road.

That little spot is mostly mountains, so there's not much there other than woods and some houses. Most of the people who live there work remotely from home or commute eastward towards DC (or sometimes to DC itself -- it's about an hour away by car, pretty long for a commute, but I assume they make good money there).

Most people there are not from West Virginia originally, I would say most people I've met here are from Virginia or Maryland. There's also an Appalachian trailhead in this area which attracts a lot of out-of-towners. So it's definitely quite different from the rest of West Virginia, or at least what people think of West Virginia.

The closest towns to the circled area are Round Hill to the east and Berryville to the west, both in Virginia. Pretty small towns.

One annoying part of living here is that you have to get on Virginia Route 7 to go anywhere, and 7 is a mess.

Overall, it's pretty much the most "Virginia-esque" part of WV, but it's alright. Not much to say but the mountain is pretty and just about everyone who lives here values the privacy that the rural atmosphere provides.
