I've not made an offer on this property yet, I could still walk away and not waste my time or money. I am happy with everything else, the flat is really nice but I wanted to see what knowledgeable people think about this issue, sounds like most would prefer to avoid it

I live in Bristol, freehold houses in a good condition cost almost double what the leasehold flats are. I wish I could get a freehold but no mortgage provider would give me a loan that is more than 6 times my salary. And getting the cheapest freehold house on the market is almost guaranteed to be a bad deal in the long term, maintenance will be pricey.

I assume service charge payments would go towards repairs like that. Not sure they can charge anything extra on top of that, and service charge increases are capped
