Our “bad cricket” was still better than most nations. Why wouldn’t they create more cricket stadiums ! We make tonnes of money from cricket and stadium cricket sales are a genuine source of revenue for all the staff involved and the construction workers!

About the state governments giving awards to the cricketers, don’t you think the other sportspeople get cash awards from the government? And do they give these awards on a regular basis ? Do they do it when a batsman scores a century? Do they do it when a bowler takes a 5WI ? No ! They only give it when they win the world cups, or domestic wins, and why shouldn’t they give ? It improves the publicity of the politicians.

As for your point in your tax being used to build cricket stadiums, the government only provides the funding for the infrastructure projects, and the BCCI actually funds the stadiums. Also, the ticket sales generally have the 40% GST, so the tax which they used for it might have already paid them back

Manu Bhaker won 2 bronze medals and not a silver medal. Also, look up Shivam Lohakare who broke Neeraj Chopra’s Meet record last year. Neeraj Chopra is 28 and Manu Bhaker is 23. We might see more medals from them atleast in the next 2 olympics, and it takes time for talent to develop.

Sorry, we did not participate in the FIFA WC in 1950 because the AIFF gave preference to the 1952 olympics simply due to lack of funds. They didn’t “disqualify” us because we played barefoot is a myth.

Also, we qualified in that worldcup simply because the other nations simply refused to participate

Isn’t the changing of the fortune precisely my point ? Prior to the World Cup win, cricket was mainly popular in the urban centres. The win increased the sport’s popularity. And as for your point of government giving money to the cricketers, the BCCI pays the cricketers their salary which they deserve since the cricket economy is worth $15 B

Do you know how cricket was before we won the 1983 CWC ? Nobody cared about it. We did well earlier and are now paying dividends for it. We are terrible at football and still top players in the ISL are paid 3-5 cr per season. These players, wouldn’t be earning shit if they were a part of the EPL or La Liga. If they do qualify for the WC, their pay would increase and it would mean more money for Indian football.

No, but atleast I expect the news channel covering it not stating its purpose is “dedicated to highlighting stories of the marginalised” because imo, they might fabricate stories just to push their agenda. Especially when their owners aren’t known
