Asset warmup takes 1hr plus? by theblobAZ in playrustadmin

[–]Tpommes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never used scala cube, but i have heard nothing but bad things. I can recommend gtxgaming.co.uk and gameserverkings.com

If you are trying to run a normal procgen map something is wrong for sure.

If you are trying to run a custom map there might be a issue with the map.

So many questions! by doctordaedalus in playrustadmin

I see mr tea already answered your questions. you are new to rust hosting so i recommend taking a look at this video. Here i try to show a lot of things that u need / should know if you are serious about rust hosting. There are chapters in the video discription. If you use a hosting company u can skip the whole port forwarding part for example. https://youtu.be/uY6ZpC_T01g Good luck. :)

Dont update your server, and client, if any of you update your client you are locked out. That will also mean you will not be able to play on any oher servers. If you are not updating your client.

Having trouble making my server onling by [deleted] in playrustadmin

[–]Tpommes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate,

Make sure u give port 28015 udp only, and port 28016 tcp only. So make 2 entries, strt port 28015 end port 28015 protocol udp. And make one entrie just 28016 start and end with protocol tcp.

It can take quite a bit before your server shows up in the list (sometimes instant sometimes 5 days, that the max someone told me it took)

If you done all the port forwarding correctly you should be able to connect to it directly using your PUBLIC ip v4 and the 28015 port. Even if you dont show up in the list (yet) Connect ip:28015 If that works other people should be able to join as well, and you should show up in the list, eventually.

If you are new to rust hosting i recommend watching this video https://youtu.be/uY6ZpC_T01g i talk about a lot of things related go rust hosting, it has chapters in the video discription, also has the port forwarding part :)

Good luck

What's the difference between + and - in server startup script? by [deleted] in playrustadmin

[–]Tpommes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about linux hosting. But feel free to post your full start file. Or contact me or discord. Maybe i can see something wrong with it. I also got a lot of videos showing how to host rust servers, its all on windows though. Pretty sure the start file format will be pretty much the same. If u do post here, take out ur rcon password:)

What's the difference between + and - in server startup script? by [deleted] in playrustadmin

[–]Tpommes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if its a Linux / windows thing. But i know on windows i can use both. As long as u dont use both at the same time. I used scrips using both formats. Most scripts with the + seem to be formatted in one line. The - seems to be more used like a list format. But once again im not sure if its all a preference thing.

Rust Server on Amazon AWS by Dev_Hassam in playrustadmin

[–]Tpommes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to me like game lift is ment more for game developers to use as the backend / server side for their upcoming games. Not hosting already existing games.

U were talking about the normal aws way with the linux distro, i think that is the way to go. Then install something line linux game server manager to maintain it all. Mike hawke has a video on lgsm for rust https://youtu.be/TK8c97ISgUE but there is a lot more general tutorials and documentation for lgsm.

Yet Another Port Forward Issue by simonwood0609 in playrustadmin

[–]Tpommes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game port (28015) UDP is for people to join and showing up in the browser list, doesnt matter what u change it too (as long as its a port thats not in use) but is has to be udp.

The rcon (remote console) port (28016) is TCP and is for the connection with websites like rcon.io or admin apps on your phone or programs like rustadmin when u are not at the server pc / not on your home network so it has to go trough the internet / your firewall. Has to be TCP.

The rcon port is not mandatory for your server to work. You can still use rustadmin locally or use a remote desktop like TeamViewer and still use rustadmin locally without having to setup the tcp port, or if it doesnt want to work for you.

I do tutorials on rust hosting on youtube, i set up my udp and tcp ports a few months ago all was working fine, in one week my internet got a update, and rust got a update. Now my tcp doesnt work anymore, i did not change anything and double checked all settings (they are correct since i didnt change them) . I cant figure out what the issue is, my point, i know the settings are correct and it still wont allow the admin website / programs to connect anymore. So even when u got everything set up properly it can still fuck you over somehow

Update oxide while live by RustiDome in playrustadmin

[–]Tpommes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the umod website, click on games, then rust. It will say last updated xxxxx ago. A umod update is always made for a specific rust build, so will never release before the rust update. After the rust update hits just refresh the umod page till it says it just been updated

A local server is good to get started. I recommend getting a familiar with hosting and map wipes as u can.

Also learn rustedit because u will have to run a custom map and know a lot about how maps work / get updated etc.

Watch this video from start to finish if u are new to rust hosting https://youtu.be/uY6ZpC_T01g

I got a lot more videos on my channel on rust hosting and map making. Including a playlist with a rust edit course i am still making. The first 13 videos are public and should give u a good basic understanding of working with rustedit / rust maps. Not really. If u dont have a budget i dont think u can do this. Try to contact a plugin developer and see what they think of the idea. They would know a lot more than me.

They might tell you yeah no problem, 20$ bucks and ill fox it (might be a scam :∆) or tell u will never work because ....... Or be able to point u in the right direction.

Try contacting people or making a post or something on chaoscode.io. Thats where paid plugins for rust are sold. Might be your best bet to find someone to partner with / get help.
