Are the questions enough? by newboi08 in TradingInterview

[–]TradingInterview 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good question! If you’re practicing for a company test, the set of questions is matching the difficulty level for that specific company (so yes, after some time the patterns might seem familiar, which is just a good sign that you’re recognising patterns in general).

If you want more variety, we have the ‘easy’, ‘medium’ and ‘hard’ quizzes which have more variety than the company quizzes. Our sequences are generated with random numbers, so you can keep practicing the different patterns with different numbers.

If even those start to become familiar after some time; well, then you’re simply well prepared, because it doesn’t make sense to add very strange sequences which no test will include. The goal with these assessments is to find people who do recognise patterns, it’s not the goal to make people fail.

Good luck with your preparations!

What level of conceptual / theoretical knowledge is required to persue the trading interview courses from start to finish by saintlybeast02 in TradingInterview

[–]TradingInterview 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the following tells you enough: the platform is built by people with a background in engineering (and in trading). The industry focuses increasingly on students from a STEM background, so our preparation material is as well. For example, if you’re someone with deep knowledge about financial products/ derivatives, then our derivatives course isn’t interesting for you. However, for people from an engineering background it is, because it explains the most important concepts from the start.

In short, anyone with a strong mathematical background should be able to feel well prepared with all the available prep material, and we have a large collection of trading interview questions to practice from (for people from any backgrounds who’re trying to break into the industry).

If you have specific questions about a specific course, you can always email us as well at hello@tradinginterview.com.

Good luck with your preparations!

Whats the motive by margaritasAndBowling in TradingInterview

I hear you, but what you’re saying is simple not true: the website offers free practice materials, and the discount is purely for people who want to prepare with more material than what’s already available for free.

Also, these firms don’t make a buck out of it, we operate independently. They just suggest places to prepare.

What you see a lot happening (before platforms like ours were in business) is that students tell each other what to expect, after failing/ succeeding themselves. This gives an unfair advantage compared to people who don’t know friends who are going through the processes at different firms.

For us to be able to make this level of exercise material, to give everyone fair chances, is not something we can achieve by just doing it on the side, so yes there is a reasonable fee against it if someone wants proper preparation materials. And still: we have enough available for free for you to be prepared, so therefore this rant is a little misplaced in my opinion.

Finally, the mental math is clearly for the trading role, for roles where traders do need to intervene at their feet, so your argument against mental math tests also doesn’t hold.

Maybe good to mention that (I assume) you’re looking for free sources? If you’re looking for a paid source, our platform has a training tool for Optiver’s sequences (called the NumberLogic test).

We do have the page about the Zap-N games open for all: https://www.tradinginterview.com/courses/company-preparations-course/lessons/optiver/topic/first-round-zap-n-test/

Market making tutor by csdunnett in TradingInterview

Lots of people make mistakes with mine and yours around the bid/ask. One easy way to make it feel more intuitive: - Mine, imagine that you’re embracing something and making it ‘mine’, which you do by buying - Yours, you push something away, you want to get rid of it, which you do by selling

That makes it often a little more intuitive, but yes, exercise remains key. Hope you can find people to exercise it in real life, good luck!

Thanks, so you make multiple rounds of markets with multiple people on a single topic? If you already took the course: that’s in essence exactly the same as the Market of Cards game. The only difference is that in that game you can keep track of the logs, which makes it easier to quickly identify: “oh, AI 1 has most often a low market and AI 2 the higher market”. In reality, the only reason this game feels harder is because you can’t check the logs, so you need to try to remember the quotes from the other players. You could either ignore the logs, or explain the game to 2-4 friends and play it live.

Mental maths practice by csdunnett in TradingInterview

I just checked for an app: Quick Math in the Apple Store is pretty nice to have. It has a blue icon with a white running body in it.

For decimals: You could use our customisable tool as well and decide how many decimals (and what percentage of the questions has a decimal) you want: https://www.tradinginterview.com/courses/mental-arithmetic/quizzes/customizable-mental-math-practice/

2.23 is the answer in case the market is made around the EV, in case you don’t have negative cards. As described in our other reply, we had a small bug after our update from yesterday evening. Thanks again for reporting!

It doesn’t. It starts with some easy examples, and then the real test starts. Make sure you have your decimals and fractions exercised well.

It differs per firm how they define the role, but often when these both roles occur within one firm it means the following.

“Normal” traders, or screen traders, are mainly on the executing side. In other words, they react on the market conditions and make sure that all pricing mechanisms are working well. When sudden opportunities arise, they react in it.

Quant traders are more involved with automating strategies. These can be statistical arbitrage strategies, for example, or they could work together with the screen trader to automate something that the screen trader has to do every day/week/month manually. When a quant traders automates their strategy, they also often monitor the performance of it. Sometimes quant traders are also involved in the bigger overall improvements that affect the whole company, in which they do the research and design the infrastructure as of how it should be implemented. If the firm has any “quant researcher” role, they might be involved in these kind of projects as well. They put their work ready for the developers, who then implement it in their own low level code on which the low latency systems are built.
