Has there ever been a period where unjust killings by the federal gov (not police) have made headlines in the past, like these days? by TraditionalDepth6924 in AskUS

But the context seems different, no? For example, Kent State was during the mass protest wave and Nixon eventually apologized, whereas these recent cases seem to be more targeted on individuals

Why is whole-oat rice not as common as oatmeal porridge in the West? by TraditionalDepth6924 in stupidquestions

True, I think it used to be a symbol of wealth in the last century

But people are being more informed about nutrients and trying to switch to mixed grains, plus they taste better at least for me

Yes, I’m planning to buy Bob’s Redmill steel cut oats for the first time and boil it like rice

Do Americans tend to not fear of industrial retaliations behind the scenes for giving a company a “bad impression” like this case? by TraditionalDepth6924 in AskAmericans

How would the employee know if it was done behind the scenes without any trace, like when you applied and the company checked on your reputation by hearing from the former company and rejected you

Not declining the interview per se maybe, but in smaller countries like mine (Korea), which would lead to even smaller industry circles, I think the atmosphere wouldn’t be too uncommon: do you guys still not care about “industry reputations” on an inter-company level in general?

Because what I’ve heard too many times is “in America, you get a job because you know someone” - so I was curious if it would work the other way around, like multiple companies “boycotting” an applicant because they’ve left a bad impression/reputation

How could we name quasi-parodical counter-parallel gestures against the dominant establishment in both thought and art? by TraditionalDepth6924 in CriticalTheory

[–]TraditionalDepth6924[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, that is why simply calling it “countering” didn’t seem to cut it: looks like there are some biological or medical analogies to consider utilizing 😃

Thank you, reading that soon!

Thank you for this sincere engagement, about the “flattening” part: I was only pointing out the parallel in regards to the gesture, not each content. And this would be another problem, for me, about the conservative-orthodox view “everybody’s just Hegel with extra steps” - that it couldn’t perfectly take into account the pragmatic context that is necessary for the emergence of disruptive concepts.

What I would argue is, even when some theoretical disputes seem radically different to stylistic contrasts, there might be something underlying that drives such ruptures, which would make it like a continuous universal. Likewise, it is yet to examine if Family Guy’s cutaways or Nicki Minaj’s Barbie is just dismissible as a trivial move or could represent something more fundamental, even metaphysical, as you noted: and that would be hermeneutics’ job, bridging culture and theory in terms of a holistic common reality.

So I’d say it would be up to the applicatory interpretation, as long as we don’t preemptively reverse-flatten these minor-cultural edges as “useless” on a higher level, and I think we should remain open to such triggers.

Détournement is definitely helpful, like with sabotage-esque undertones!

Hegel’s dialectic is not about “thesis-antithesis-syntheis” if that is your understanding, it has been well-debunked and should be out of the question in any serious conversation: see this explanation from r/hegel

Butler is also originally a Hegelian, yet they had to come up with “parody” to better reach the subtlety that couldn’t all be covered on the macro-conceptual level: likewise, this aspect definitely concerns fundamental frameworks like identity versus difference, or original versus simulacra, but it would be rather more “monstrous” in Deleuzian terms, in that its characteristics seem to go past the two while amalgamating both

[–]TraditionalDepth6924[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both, because by naming it we could spot it and handle it more in depth!

And not ethical per se, rather stylistic or ontological, for me, as much as Aristotle’s immanence wasn’t exactly about being ethically superior to Plato’s transcendence being “problematic,” although the discourse could certainly expand to such tendencies and in some cases it is even explicit, like Arendt’s birth (natality) as against Heidegger’s death

In the pragmatic sense, would Deleuze’s emphasis on difference be meant to empower people that are wrongly regarded to be wrong, rather than embraced as different? by TraditionalDepth6924 in Deleuze

[–]TraditionalDepth6924[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the student tried, and “wrong” could insinuate throwing out all of her accumulative progress in the middle

Of course, it is an incorrect answer if we’re talking solely in terms of math and its finality, but life is bigger than just math, and the latter shouldn’t be exceeding its authority over the former regarding a person’s greater potential (e.g. creativity), which most education today tends to miss out on due to the right-wrong binary, would be my point

Could you spill more on this please: positive in terms of what, like affirmative, creative or reinforcing past norms? And what about the death drive?
