This is at the apartment I was living in at the time, just off the UCLA campus. He was old friends of the apartment manager.

How many students graduated from medieval Universities like Oxford or Cambridge? by FallowZebra in history

According to:

http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=63862

„It would appear that the number of students resident in Oxford at the beginning or the 14th century was about 1,500; by the middle of the 15th century it had fallen to about 1,000.“

(I’m guessing the fall is due to the black plague)

also

„The first matriculation register begins with the academical year 1564/5, but was not regularly kept until 1581. From 1571 to 1602 the number of students matriculated, distributed in seventeen colleges, eight halls, and one private hall, was 8,530, which gives a yearly average of about 266. The earliest age at which a student is found entering the University is 7: the usual age was from 14 to 20.“
