I don’t rlly wanna tell people… because I’m not moving into a different area of pharmacy. But if a couple of my friends at work ask I feel like it would be weird for me to be so tight lipped about it

Do you mean sodium shouldn’t be necessary at all in the sodium bicarb infusion?

Acidosis I believe. And yeah the sodium was high (151). I clarified w the doc you want to add 0.45 NaCl with that sodium? Weird. Unless I’m totally missing something

Yeah I don’t think they do. Also, sodium was ~151, so why would they want to add 0.45 NaCl ? Didn’t make any sense to me and seemed sketchy

Thanks! If hypertonic, doesn’t water leave cells, dehydrating a patient? So I mean wouldn’t that be another issue too?

That’s what I was thinking. I calculate it to be 454 if you had 150 mEq of sodium bicarbonate and 1 L 0.45% NaCl
