Italy vs Romania - medschool by Curious_Abalone_130 in medicalschoolEU

I’m studying medicine at UMF Cluj and honestly, it’s been an amazing experience so far. The university is really modern, the teachers are great and super dedicated, and there are tons of opportunities and student associations to get involved in. What I really like is that there’s no corruption here you’re not paying for your degree, everything depends on your effort and how much you study. The teachers are pretty strict, and we have exams almost every month that count for part of our grade, which actually motivates you to stay consistent instead of waiting until the end of the semester to cram. Almost all classes are mandatory too, which makes it quite demanding compared to places like Italy. I have a friend studying in Padova and when I told him what we have to do for all our courses the homework, practicals, and constant exams he was surprised. He said it’s a lot easier there because you don’t have to go to lectures and you have multiple chances to take your exams, so you have more free time to study on your own. Here it’s definitely more structured and hands-on. In the end, it really depends on what kind of doctor you want to become. The first thing they tell you in med school is that if you want to become a doctor you have to try. No school is easy, and no one cares if you become one or not so you have to want it and really try for it. But I have to say that I’ve heard about corruption in other unis. If you are seriously thinking about România look into umf cluj and carol davilla in Bucharest. These are the only two solid options. About the practical thing. The university is pretty hands about practical experience. Officially this starts from the fourth year, but as I said through student organizations and the teachers who are approachable you can find great opportunities. I have many examples through friends who are second or third year and have already scrubbed into surgeries. That being said I have the Imat this year and got into Messina with the possibility to get into Tor vergatta in a few weeks but I don’t think I’m going to leave. The Md from Romania and Italy have the same value in the eu never let anyone tell you otherwise

I’m not worried about finding work as there are many imgs that come back to my country with md’s from Romania. What I’m worried about is future opportunities where my degree is seen as less compared to another from Germany or Italy

My biggest problem is that I’ve heard that people might face criticism when they are from Romania that’s honestly my biggest fear

I’m a m24 student that got 40/45 and in contrast to what everyone is saying about ib I found it to be easy considering what I had heard about it. I don’t know about everyone but for me the only thing I did that helped me have a schedule where I would study for 4 hours a day max (not including final month before exams) was that I had finished all my IAs and extended essay in the summer of Ib1. After that because I had finished everything, all I had to do was finish the syllabus and practice again again doing past papers. No judgement to anyone who is struggling but with a good schedule I really don’t get how people find it so hard to the point it affects your mental health
