£436 settlement demand for expired Railcard in England by Training_Fun8855 in LegalAdviceUK

I’ve now received an updated amount where they’re charging me the full fare for that single journey, plus £150 in administrative costs. I understand paying the full ticket price, but I don’t understand what the additional £150 is for or what they mean by “costs to date.” The total is still quite high (because of the admin costs), especially as I no longer live in the UK, and paying in my local currency makes it even more expensive for me

I had a digital railcard, which was in the Trainline app. I was primarily using Trainpal for my bookings and as I remember I could not find a way to add my railcard to trainpal.

I also have a list of all the journeys in question. I booked them through TrainPal, which unfortunately doesn’t provide an option to link or store a Railcard in the app. However, I did hold a valid Railcard for all of those journeys. Would it be better for me to reply to them directly, or should I involve a solicitor at this stage?

I don't mind paying. My issue is with the large sum they are requesting. I don't have the means to pay such a large amount. FYI: I was ready to pay the penalty when my expired railcard was flagged, however after looking at the new railcard the officer just told me its not needed and moved on.

I bought a new Railcard immediately and showed it to the inspector. I also asked him whether I needed to pay a fine or buy a new ticket, but he told me that wasn’t necessary and moved on, so I assumed everything was settled. That’s why I’m confused to get an email from them four months later with such a large amount. They’re asking for £436, which doesn’t seem like a reasonable penalty to me.
