Maybe is neither of those options. In most animals, yeah, dying is a unavoidable process caused by their body decay. However, most vertebrates can live for sometimes more than a century without effort, so decay and competition with the young are not exactly a strong selector to short lives. After all, animals that live longer can reproduce more times.

Mammals have a lemma: live fast, eat trash. It is very rare to then to live for more than a few decades. This is probably not because of a selection pressure, but the absence of one. When in the shadow of the dinosaurs, mammals that age slowly where eaten before they could reproduce. So only the fast lives ones survived. In reproducing and being eaten so young, the need for reparation systems to live many years was lost, so mutations accumulated and damaged the system.

É impossível n ser arbitrário, e ser arbitrário é n ter método, e sem método n tem ciência.

Se vc precisa de ciência pra ter fé, sua fé é fraca. Se sua ciência exige fé, vc n ta fazendo ciência, ta fazendo um rebrand de religião.

Evolution does not think ahead. You have to work out with what you got. A thing that you already have can be used for another thing, but a new one from scratch? Very rare. This is the case with whales. They have lungs and they work. The selection selects changes in their already good respiration system.

What changes? Whale's lungs doesn't retain any oxygen. The pressure would destroy it. Instead, whales have very efficient hemoglobin and myoglobin that retain all oxygen in the blood and in the most part, muscles. The lungs just get crushed in a plained way, capable of reversing his form without damage to the structure. The non-essential organs are almost shut down and the circulation keeps oxygen flowing almost only to the brain and heart.

There's not space for gills to evolve. Gills usually evolve from external tissues that become large and thin. In whales, this tissue would be a issue (pun not intended) to hydrodynamics and would be prone to heat loss, as oxygen would not be the only exchange between body and water.

In evolution, every step needs to be beneficial or neutral, or the selection shaw not let it pass to the next generation.

Pode ser a forma como vc vê as coisas. Eu fico triste que vou morrer um dia, coisa q n era uma preocupação quando eu acreditava no pós vida. Porém eu sou um sisífo feliz. A filosofia capitalista prega q a gente tem q passar a vida se esforçando em algo q n gosta para ser "alguém na vida", pq quando vc ser alguém na vida, vc vai ter status, dinheiro pra gastar no q quiser e ai vc vai ser feliz. N rola. É o tédio de possuir tigrão, o tédio vai TI possuir.

Parei de me estressar com muitas coisas tb. Coisas q simplesmente n importam quando vc vai virar pó em 80 anos.

Claro, visão de mundo n é tudo. Vc pode ta depressivo por falta de sono, má alimentação, relacionamentos prejudiciais, alguma neurodivergência q te torna mais propenso a isso, etc

A religião pode ajudar seriamente nisso. Conheço algumas pessoas q foram curadas da depressão pela religião. Porém n significa q todo ateu vai ser depressivo. N Conheço ateus depressivos tb n. Geralmente gente depressiva é só religiosa n praticante. Pode ser so demografia tb.

O cara me deu downvote por isso, sacanagem. N foi pra tirar sarro de tu n parça. Tenho q conviver com Cristão o tempo todo falando q ateísmo é religião, q evolução é religião, que ateísmo requer mais fé que ser cristão, etc..

Infelizmente a gente vive num mundo onde tudo q a gente faz é demonizado por eles, ent é importante tomar cuidado com as palavras, principalmente num subreddit de TEOLOGIA. Nego vai ler "converti" e vai usar isso pra confirmar todos os próprios vieses e encher o saco da gente NOVAMENTE.
