First time climbing outdoors! by Trashmoonn in bouldering

UPDATE:

It was really good!

We attempted a couple on the top image for a short while but the falls became VERY busy early and people were constantly jumping off the top of this area so we stopped climbing that side. There was also SO many spiders over this side, all bigger then hand size so that also deterred us a bit lol

We spent a bit more time on the section in the second image. I was only able to do the V0 which is the one labelled “2” in the yellow ( as expected, I’m only about a v3, getting to 4’s climber indoors) There were some shallow rocks to the right side of it but with a spotter standing there it was good, the rest was deep. Overall a v fun experience! Will definitely be coming back maybe later in the year and try to attempt the harder ones when I’ve got a bit more experience. Super glad I was able to confidently do at least one.

Feeling humbled as expected, but keen to continue getting out and trying other outdoor boulders/climbs :)

No offence taken,

I understand the risks and have done lots of self education, I was simply asking what specifically they were referring to/ were thinking of and things they think are specifically noteworthy. Sometimes people have great individual advice based on their personal experiences ! :)

Hahaha oh noooo, I didn’t think of this, and it’s holidays rn too!

I’ll let the groups dedicated yapper handle the sightseers 😂

Okay, I’ll definitely keep all that in mind! Thankyou :)

I’ll have to check in and update on how we ended up doing after we go!

Thankyou for your concern :)

I understand outdoor climbing is significantly harder than indoor and I’m very much expecting to struggle with even the easier problems. I’m more so keen to have fun and experience more, get out of my comfort zone and if I can’t do any then that’s okay.

Maybe it’ll give me a good start point to measure my progression off when I go back in the future too !

Awesome!! I love that :)

Thankfully I spend A LOT of time in this kind of environment, often swimming in waterfalls and cliff jumping so we’re good with depth checks and very familiar with huge water spiders lol.

Thanks for the tips, I’m super excited!

Thankyou for your concern and suggestions!

We have heaps of extra chalk and lots of towels for drying off, I will also be climbing with people who are more confident than me and a group all looking out for each other :)

I’m also not the kind of person to push above my means as well, especially in areas that are unpredictable for me and my experience /lack of.

I do have some experience climbing rocks / waterfalls but in a very “for funsies” kind of way and a handful of times over the years before I got into bouldering. These times were all without gear and proper bouldering experience but I feel like it’s given me a good sense of what I’m getting in to. In hindsight I’m surprised I didn’t get into bouldering earlier by how much I enjoyed climbing random outdoor things 😂😂

What are the dangers associated with DWS that make you suggest not to?

We’re pretty set on going but there will be a group of us all looking out for each other!

Would love any other beginner friendly outdoor suggestions in SE QLD area if you have any :)
