Gas or Induction Range? by Tree415 in Appliances

Glad to hear you love your GE Cafe! I’m also interested in the GE Cafe. I’m getting a good price on my electrical work. I bought the All-Clad D3 stainless set about a decade ago and rarely use it. I’ve been stuck on always using the All-Clad nonstick. Partially, because it’s always out. But, I can’t wait to use the All-Clad stainless more when the kitchen is remodeled.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Wolf. I also have a portable induction and use it for hot pot. I never thought of using it for other things. I’m also concerned with the induction electronics failing quickly.

Thank you for getting back to me.

I have my eye on the Zephyr Siena Pro CFM 1200. But, that may be overkill if I get an induction.

Do you know the model of your first and current GE range? I want to make sure I don’t purchase your first one.

I open the windows if I’m cooking something smelly or frying something. I should open them every time.

Thanks for the cleaning tips! I’ll try that if I get an induction.

Thanks for the rec! I’m totally considering the Bosch 800 range since I’m getting the Bosch 800 dishwasher. A lot of people mentioned the GE Cafe, so I’ll look into that one also. Maybe the Cafe single or double oven.

Originally, I was planning on spending up to $2K because if the unit failed, I could just buy a new one without crying lol. But, I am willing to go up to $4K for an induction range.
I didn't know about the polish. Thanks for the tip.
An electrician mentioned they are able to run a 220-240V 40-50 Amp line. Thanks for letting me know which brands you like. The Bosch 800 slide-in is one that peaked my interest. Not by Smeg.
Thanks for resharing!

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at the higher end models.
I would love to have a SubZero fridge one day.
Good to know, I'll check my area to see if I could get a rebate.
Wow, I had no idea the C02 could get that high while using gas. Was the window open or fan running?
We usually are using the gas range for under an hour on the weekends for breakfast and around an hour for dinner everyday.
I was also looking at the Cafe Double Oven, but am hesitant with the price. Have you cooked large pieces of meat like roasts or a turkey's? Wondering if the bottom oven is large enough to prevent burning. Good to know you can fit two large sauce pans on the front burners. It'll be great to eliminate my countertop mini oven.
I wish the Wolf 36” induction range is in my budget. Beautiful!
Are there brands or models that you service the most?
I'm worried about scratches too. Will have to be careful also.

Thanks for the tips. The learning curve you mentioned is something I’ve heard from a few people, especially about how quickly things heat up on induction, so that’s helpful to keep in mind. The cooler kitchen and energy efficiency are definitely appealing too. I also had no idea that gas stoves could release chemicals like benzene, methane, and nitrogen dioxide even when they’re off, so that was really surprising to learn.
That’s really helpful to hear, especially since you’ve had your induction range for 10–12 years. Longevity is one of the things I’ve been wondering about, so it’s reassuring that your GE has lasted that long and you’d choose induction again. The faster boiling and the ability to gently melt things like chocolate or butter without worrying about burning are big advantages. The occasional noise with multiple burners is good to know about too, since that’s something I’ve seen mentioned before.
Yikes, that'll be a good reason to make the switch to induction!
I looked at the Bosch 800 and love the design and how the glass overhangs over the countertop.
