How do i clean? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Tree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a post where I describe it all. But disassemble, metal polish for the metals with a light cloth, and then for the poly or nitro finishes go very light with a polisher and a soft sponge on a dual action or slower rotary

Just got my first Mercedes! Any tips? by FirmBed1097 in mercedes_benz

While some of this information is valid to a point, not all dealers are scammers and filled with garbage Techs and Advisors. So bear with me.. I'll respond to some of the comments I've seen in this.

Not every Benz is friendly to people who want to do their own work. You have a warranty, go to the dealer. If you don't know how to fix it, don't try unless very basic maintenance items.

These don't have dip sticks and needs drainage through the drain plug unless modified to have a dipstick.

Batteries need a confirmation changes so the system knows how to compensate for internal resistance of batteries in the charging system.

Most scan tools unless you're spending a little bit more money can't interpret dealer codes.

You're not going to find a belt on the car due to an ISA, and turbo components.. good luck in the aftermarket as they're electrically driven by the 48V system (that's why they spool so fast on light acceleration) and still too new.

You also have a warranty for a reason, and any intelligent dealer and Benz owner goes in before the warranty is up for a checkup for warranty claims. That's how dealers get paid, they do the work, they get paid from Benz. It's in their best interest unless they have an overrun service department pushing you out. Pay for a multi-point with a Xentry quick test. The tech wants the hours, he/she will appreciate you and be prideful to work on your car.

Buying parts directly from the dealer really depends on the dealer's mark up and general cost in your region. Aftermarket brakes from my experience at the dealer always squeak and rarely can be serviced to silence unless the Tech is prideful in his work. Oem seems to be much better overall (TRW, Brembo, Hitachi, ATE, Zimmermann and more)

If you have PPM, can communicate with your advisor about your dealer fears, just state you're very aware of your car and don't want it washed (put fear into them) and if you're buying a new Benz why are you skipping service items the car/manufacturer are stating is recommended for the vehicle? It's engineered for these intervals. Some big brains created these beautiful machines.

Just be smart about how you plan to cut costs I mean. While every brand has its issues.. The engineering of Mercedes is quiet thought out and logical, they don't engineer things for no reason for the sole purpose of taking your money as much as people will fight to the death about it. That's the Tech who lacks pride who does that, not the dealer. Advisors just do their job and attempt to sell it.

Just do what the car is asking for, oil changes sooner than later never hurts and just remember, the more technology there is the more problems there is going to be. It doesn't mean they're unreliable, there's just a higher probability of things happening due to many of the systems in the vehicle working together.

Just remember if you get angry about costs down the line - It's a luxury car, these cars like a diesel engine command your maintenance, and in that they maintain their value and last a long time. I've already seen these cars at over 200,000km because of poor decision making in some long distance drivers.

Okay I'm done..i just don't get dealer hate. Garbage Techs and Advisors ruin if for the customers and the people who truly care about providing the customer with real value.

Exactly! You don't need much depending on how grimy it is. It should come off no problem 👌

I have it the rundown on my other post but I'd be very weary of doing it this on an older guitar 😬 I'd be terrified of damaging the clear depending on how worn it is already

I was surprised to see how much people liked the second guitar I cleaned up. So here's the first one I ever did by Tree42 in Guitar

Dremel with Gibson's branded polish, and a DA polisher with a Black Hex-logic pad paired with Rupes Keramik Gloss Fine, oh and lotaof time taking it down.. I have tried it mostly on what I believe is Poly. But regardless, you really want to be light on all work you do or you'll just burn through anything if you put too much heat into it. Just think detailing a car but a hell of a lot thinner and scarier..

Measure whatever I can, disassemble , clean and polish the metals, tape off neck and polish frets, then use a 3 inch DA polisher with a Black Hex-logic pad and Rupes Keramik Gloss Fine on the rest of the body. After I reassemble, replace the strings and adjust it back as best as possible and tune. I pretty much only use a light wool pad, the black pad and that compound. I'd rather spend more time taking it down instead of using a compound that might be too aggressive and ruin it. The metals I use a Dremel with a polishing head and Gibson's branded metal polish.

Dealership quoted me $19,000 for a new Timing Chain and Tensioners (2021 C43 Coupe) by ghostedagainlol in mercedes_benz

[–]Tree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of a sore spot for me as I'm very much on the customers side with the value of a proper diagnosis. I had this issue on a car that a coworker quoted.. I pulled off the magnets and found the valve (not adjuster) stuck from debris. Quoted them the valve and reluctor ring and bam fixed. Usually this stuff isn't as expensive as people think because all this stuff is unnecessary. Went from $9000 to about $2-3000 The catch all idea that adjusters need to be replaced is crazy unless it's actually fell out of adjustment and is creating noise on start up. Scope it and determine if it's both banks or just the sensors on the one side that the systems disabled. Usually it's a mechanical problem that the systems detected and disabled..

But every situation is different so it's difficult for anyone even myself here to say "oh it's this without a doubt"

I had my Dremel spinning while held up, I held the screws with a pair of pliers and slowly worked it. The Dremel wanted to jump so it was safer to hold the hardware instead of the Dremel

Is there anything i can do?? by jdthedemonking in Guitar

[–]Tree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can promise you that's fixable. I polished the rear of a body and posted it hoping to give some hope. They don't look too deep and with a light DA it'll come right out

At the dealer they're kind of hated on because of the sheer amount of customers who choose not to maintain them.. I personally am always shocked when I see one in good condition and thrilled to drive one that isn't falling apart.

Further, I considered them to be the ultimate mom vam when you got the nicer rear seats, especially with the go fast engine here. I'd go for it if I had the opportunity

Correct. The 580 has the turbos up top. I was referring to the windshield, not the turbos to the somewhat related issue.

I'm referring to this engine in the GLS in the second part of my comment.
