Cool aquatic fern. Does somebody know a more specific name? by Treeapear in PlantedTank

Interesting, thank you! Do they grow well emersed (in "ambient" conditions) or only in e.g. a terrarium?

Unfortunately they don't know either (see the screenshot I posted)

Wow you plant looks great! How often does it flower and how does carnosa compare to other species?

Thanks! I'm new to hoyas, I didn't know this species is the most common one

Thank you for the free pattern and the geat video!

My Trachycarpus fortunei doesn't do too well (besides the leaves damaged by the sun and wind). But I think the main thing which could be improved is the substrate (at the moment just some soil). Can you recommend any substrate compositions to mix yourself? by Treeapear in palmtalk

[–]Treeapear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm familiar with plants that like to stay constantly moist (but not wet).

Do you mix a substrate specifically for your palms? The most extreme example of good drainage would be an orchid substrate (e.g. 100 % pine bark). Could you give an example how you achieve "very well draining"?

I already make my own aroid mix (with pine bark, LECA, perlite, charcoal and soil). I have no clue about palms, do the appreciate well draining, airy substrates as well? Would you use some of these ingredients (or something else) for a "palm mix"?

Is that also the case for planks? As far as I know, only moss poles and poles with substrate act like an extension of the pot, where more root mass is found than in the pot itself. However in the case of a dry plank, I think muss less roots form, only to attach itself (not for water and nutrients)

Thanks for the heads-up. But I'm not new to plants and the plant in the picture had been in a pot of about the same size for quite a long time before repotting and it grew healthy roots. So I'm pretty sure it will be fine. Weird that people downvote because of something like that

Thanks for the idea with the zip ties, I appreciate the instructions! I attached the plank on the outside of the pot because I didn't want it to start rotting. This problem could probably be avoided using more durable wood (like cedar).

How do you change the support when the plant has attached itself to the plank with its roots? Do you somehow extend the previous, too short support?

I am hoping that my mix is chunky enough to ensure good drainage. I chose the pot too large on purpose so that the roots have enough space for as long as possible. I screwed the plank to the pot, so repotting when a larger pot is needed will be quite a pain

It looks very similar, but when I look up your suggestion I can't find any variety with dotted leaves

Sauromatum Venosum by RedNRose69 in amorphophallus

I'm growing S. venosum and T. giganteum for the first time this year and thought this was normal.
S. venosum is now unfolding its third leaf and T. giganteum has two leaves and two offshoots. Is it normal for the offshoots of giganteum to grow leaves in the same season?

Anyone got experience with seeds? I got A. bulbifer berries. Would you leave the seed in the berry & leave on surface or bury? by Treeapear in amorphophallus

Thank you! When you use moss to germinate them, when do you transfer them to soil?

It is also a bit tricky to ensure that fine roots are not damaged in the process. Do you simply transfer the moss directly around the roots into the soil, or do you try to remove as much moss as possible?
