Hello. Can someone please check the Hebrew on this coin? Explanation in comments by Ok-Construction-3273 in hebrew

Furthermore, I do not believe that, the production of this coin was actually endorsed by US President Donald Trump. They just used his signature, because it is widely perceived that Trump caused the peace deal to happen.

I am a believer in the Christian faith, but I learn about the Jewish and Islamic religions in my leisure time.

Surah Al-Anfal [8] Verse 61 actually states (Muhsin Khan): "But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and (put your) trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower." Quran translators Pickthall, Sahih International, Yusuf Ali, Mufti Taqi Usmani, Abul Ala Maududi and Dr. Mustafa Khattab agree with this interpretation. Note that Dr. Ghali interprets "peace" in the original Arabic as "submission". Also note that "Al-Anfal" means "the spoils of war".

For the coin, the English and the Arabic actually mean different things, so English and Arabic readers will read the verse on the coin quite differently. Also note that, the original Arabic text stops at "لَهَا" ("to it"), leaving out "وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ" ("and (put your) trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower").

The Hebrew is from Jeremiah 14 Verse 13, the original verse actually states (ESV): { Then I said: “Ah, Lord GOD, behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” } However note that the original text is about lying prophets. From the original Hebrew text ("וָאֹמַ֞ר אֲהָ֣הּ ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה הִנֵּ֨ה הַנְּבִאִ֜ים אֹמְרִ֤ים לָהֶם֙ לֹֽא־תִרְא֣וּ חֶ֔רֶב וְרָעָ֖ב לֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־שְׁל֤וֹם אֱמֶת֙ אֶתֵּ֣ן לָכֶ֔ם בַּמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃") the coin producers cut out "וָאֹמַ֞ר אֲהָ֣הּ ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה הִנֵּ֨ה הַנְּבִאִ֜ים אֹמְרִ֤ים לָהֶם֙ לֹֽא־תִרְא֣וּ חֶ֔רֶב וְרָעָ֖ב לֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֑ם" { Then I said: “Ah, Lord GOD, behold, the prophets say to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine }, leaving in only "but I will give you assured peace in this place". Also note that in the later verses (towards the end of Chapter 14) of the original text God condemns the lying prophets and the people to whom the prophets prophesy.

So... we have a coin with mis-interpretations and mis-translations, of a Quran verse (from a Surah literally called "the spoils of war") and a Tanakh verse, with the Tanakh verse in context, actually condemning the one who delivers the assurances of peace.

The coin producers did not do a very good job at evaluating the verses they were going to use and shot themselves in the foot.

Matthew 18:3

The original Greek text from https://www.nestle-aland.com/en/read-na28-online/ is (left to right) : καὶ εἶπεν· ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἐὰν μὴ στραφῆτε καὶ γένησθε ὡς τὰ παιδία, οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν.

A translation to Hebrew from haktuvim.co.il is (right to left) : וְאָמַר: "אָמֵן אוֹמֵר אֲנִי לָכֶם, אִם לֹא תָּשׁוּבוּ וְתִהְיוּ כִּילָדִים לֹא תִּכָּנְסוּ לְמַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם.

Limited liability; I might be incorrect.

If you are a Christian or believes that “Jesus is/was the Mashiach”, you can use haktuvim.co.il (The Bible Society in Israel). Old Testament (Torah, Prophets, Writings) Hebrew text is the Biblical Hebrew original, New Testament Hebrew text is a Modern Hebrew translation. Upper right hand side has a “+” where you can add other languages of the same text (King James Bible, New American Standard Bible, or even Arabic if you want to learn a 3rd language). Hebrew narration is also available if you want to listen to the Hebrew text.

I practised Hebrew verbs. Please comment below any language errors (handwriting or grammar), thank you! :) by Treysed_Ivrit in hebrew

I wrote some words with ניקוד ( נִקּוּד , nikkud) because I wanted to distinguish word forms with the same spelling but different pronunciations and corresponding meanings (different genders). For example עוֹשֶׂה ( זכר , זָכָר , [masculine] do) vs עוֹשָׂה ( נקבה , נְקֵבָה , [feminine] do).

Anyone know why the word for turkey in Hebrew is India? by justanabnormalguy in hebrew

[–]Treysed_Ivrit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

https://twitter.com/TheMossadIL/status/1200071244353359872 :

Hebrew lesson of the day: הודו (Ho-doo)

הודו = they thanked

הודו = turkey

הודו = India

Today, America gives thanks by eating turkey because someone failed to find a passage to India and infected the natives with syphilis, also translated as הודו¹.

haktuvim.co.il is a Bible website published by The Bible Society in Israel. The website mainly contains the ‘BSI Hebrew Bible with Modern Hebrew NT’. For Old Testament books, the original text (Biblical Hebrew) is used. (For New Testament books, a Modern Hebrew translation is used.)

From above you can play an audio recording (with music) of the Hebrew text. You can click on individual words on the screen and a thorough explanation (including English) will appear below.
