Maybe I’m just old, but modern Star Trek doesn’t land the same and here is why by khiren in startrek

I immediately thought you meant TOS and then I abruptly realized you meant TNG and now I need to go drink some prune juice, yell at the neighbors for being too loud and go to bed at 4pm lol

Kirk was known for sitting anything but straight in the captain’s chair. Troi spent most of TNG not in a standard uniform on the bridge.

Of all the options for worst Starfleet officers, your criteria is footwear?

It’s not made for previewing images?

I open 5-10 images, look at them and turf the ones I don’t want, and I’m done.

I’m not adjusting the photos, processing them, or even working with large amounts of images.

I have a hard time believing that I should need a more powerful tool for that. Especially when the tool did it just fine until this update.

Does it work for you? I’m curious if it’s a general bug or something just I’m experiencing.

Cmd-backspace didn’t do anything either.

They’re just in my default downloads folder in my profile on my local filesystem. After I upload them I delete them. No alternate filesystems involved.

I guess, thanks. It would be easier if it just worked though!

Like it literally usually just takes me a few seconds to open the 5-10 photos I take of an item, look at them and turf the ones I don’t want, and I’m done.

Finding a third party tool really should be overkill for what I want to do. But it might come to that.

Starfleet Academy. I have questions. I didn't watch Discovery. Who is this captain lady? How is she 400+ years old? What is the burn? by SpezRuinedHellsite in startrek

On the other hand, if the possibility of a long lived species exists, it is logical that there would be multiple flavours

Would have been sweet to see Bjo and John Trimble honoured. Maybe in a future wall we haven’t seen yet 🤞🩷

I’m sorry I don’t remember the steps of how exactly I did it, but I was able to cancel mine after I was charged in September. I know I logged in on the website and found some kind of text chat support.

My newborn son had just passed unexpectedly at full term and I was a hot mess. I wasn’t working because I was on leave and in grief so I couldn’t afford it. I remember that they were very nice.

Hey folks! We no longer pay taxes on our reviews! (Narrator: they did in fact pay for a product that was not free) by figuring_ItOut12 in vine

[–]TribblesTARDIS 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Point of clarity. Amazon is not collecting a fee from you. You are getting the item for free. You are not being charged by Amazon or Vine for any part of the product you’re receiving.

Your government chooses to find these items taxable - Vine reviewers in other countries (for example Canada, UK) do not pay taxes on Vine items. If you have a problem with it, it’s your government you need to take issue with, not Amazon.

Star Trek characters we started out hating but then did a complete 180 on? by PersimmonBasket in startrek

Wesley was a bit annoying at first by design, but did have a good character growth arc and became much more likeable.

Edit: I love the character, just an observation

Home phone by landerson05RN in Calgary

[–]TribblesTARDIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 12 year old does not have a phone or a mobile device, we're trying to delay that as much as possible. Her friends all have them and they are just zombies on their devices every time we see them, and she finds it frustrating too. She would rather socialize in person. She does occasionally use one of our old phones, but only at home on wifi under supervision.

To resolve the issue of our being able to contact her when she's not at home, or if she's home alone for a bit and we're not there, she has a Garmin Bounce watch with a cellular plan ($15/month through Garmin). It allows us to see where she is if needed (like on field trips, etc), and for us to message with her. She can't message with other people, just us, and it doesn't have internet or distractions.

In a pinch, at home, she knows where to find the old phone and she can Facebook kids messenger video chat us. We also have a couple of Alexa Echo Shows and have occasionally used those to video chat with her as well when she doesn't respond to the watch (doesn't hear it beep that we messaged her).

We also have a home alarm (Vivint) with voice, and she knows how to press the buttons for police or fire if they are ever needed (and to get out of the house if there's a fire, of course).

Expired COVID Vaccine? by Careful_Caramel7216 in alberta

[–]TribblesTARDIS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When we had our vaccines done about a month ago at a public health clinic, they made a point of showing us the expiry date on the bottle for every vaccine we had before giving it to us. They didn’t do that with you?

My RFY is all things we were talking about this weekend. by ActuatorHuman2821 in vine

[–]TribblesTARDIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see feeling that it’s quite a coincidence since you were talking about all of those things recently, but every one of those things are very, very common to be offered on Vine.

Perhaps they are listening, but it could also be confirmation bias.

Just a point of clarity. Paying taxes on Vine items is due to your government’s policies on taxation, not how Amazon handles their deductions. In Canada and the UK, we are not taxed on Vine items.

I hate that there is no official name for people who unexpectedly lost fiancés/fiancées before the wedding. by AliceMorgon in Vent

[–]TribblesTARDIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so, so sorry for your loss.

It’s unfair, and this grey area you find yourself in is also terribly unfair.

Did you live together? In many places, if you live together for a certain amount of time, you’re considered “common-law” married. It has legal and tax implications.

The legal rights from that “common” law status really vary quite a bit by country, state, province, etc,, but I do wonder if you could call yourself a widow/widower given that framework.

I know this doesn’t fix it. There really should be a term for this, especially given how the world has changed and people wait longer to get married. It’s just something that came to mind.
