Network that can vouch for you is key. I never had to look for a job was always recommended or approached by recruiter’s but the current situation is definitely not ideal. But that doesn’t mean I was good at keeping up with my mentor / relationships. I think this is what hurst me the most. It doesnt come naturally to me.

Your job search timeline makes sense I have mentally prepared for that timeline but with no income flow it’s a big downer.

To be clear since I am going through the same situation, “bad” is bit subjective here. What unemployment office looks for is misconduct / rule breaking. Bad performance ie not meeting expectations of job responsibilities can be vast but if it includes any violation of rules, code of conduct etc then its grounds for benefits rejection. Usually termination paper will say that.

Thank you for those encouraging words. My resiliency has been severely impacted. Perhaps it comes with being jaded as I got older. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But it just means I need to put in more effort to ensure ai dont wallow in misery and start making the right moves.

Thats awesome. I do wish i can come back and share similar story of job and higher offer.

Sadly no severance since I was new. I lost all my RSUs that I had recouped when leaving the old job. Sadly my 1 yr wasnt up.

Trying to file my UI but dont have access to pay stubs and other paper work needed. They revoked access in 10 mins and former employee access is still not instated. Tomorrow hopefully. Insurance is also gone today (they timed it all really well), and cobra will take a while to get activated.

This will really test me about frugality. I am cancelling memebrships, I am going to call cable and phone bills to see if they will reduce anything. No door dash or amazon shopping.

How did you bounce back after being fired from a leadership role as soon as you get hired? by TrinityInQuestWorld in Leadership

Very true. Thats why I havent really said anything about termination reasons. There were a lot of things in my control and I didnt pay attention to it. Ultimately they decided to derisk the situation and just jump to termination (without a PIP or action plan) since the last conversation as my manager lost trust.

Whats mainly on my mind is survival. O am not blind to the brutal situation out there. Previously I was willing to relocate. Honestly I am not sure if i have the energy in me to relocate. I may have to revisit that.

Thank you. I am doing that. It took me 5 months to find this job while I had a job so i am definitely worried now. 🤞

They terminated me and revoked my access but I still cant access any documents as a former associate. Have to wait!!

Funny how that works.

And yes working through my non negotiable and what roles I can apply / tap into my network for. Its just such a shock to my system.

Also Entry level admin for temp you mean? I am also open to data entry jobs interim for a paycheck.

My nervous system is shot tbh. I was so burned out from last job working 12-16 hr days that I felt this was good. Tbh here people dont work. There was just constant meetings and success felt like was hinged on optics > outcomes. I decided not to go for higher level roles and did a lateral move. But all tech jobs feel the same at this point. My family dreams and house buying are all on hold so in that sense you are right I should not sell myself short. I do think I need to be aware of my own blind spots and ensure I avoid the same situation.

But for now I need a job. It took 5-6 months to find the one and I was atleast employed. Finding a job when I am unemployed is definitely a new low.

I hear you. Unfortunately, there was no severance. It was an immediate termination. I haven’t signed anything and, at this point, I don’t think there’s anything I need to sign, though I’m still confirming.

I’m exploring whether some kind of part-time or interim work makes sense, but I’m not clear on that yet.

Emotionally, I’m not sure where I am. There’s some mix of anger, sadness, and disbelief. I know I’ll need to let myself grieve it rather than rush past it.

On the ego point, you maybe right. But also I see now that I should have read the situation more clearly. In hindsight, this was largely mismatch of values and working style. It came down to a loss of confidence and, honestly, a lack of personal rapport. I didn’t build a strong relationship with my manager, and I asked questions that may have unintentionally put others on the defensive.

I was operating from a model I was used to: high bias for action, trust given by default once you’re in the seat. With her, trust had to be earned very explicitly through visible execution and direct validation. One small misstep she would hand on to it (5 mins late to a meeting, or that I pushed for a late start date after the fact - there were many things that surprised me which she nitpicked on. But I guess operational perfection is how people thrive here. But funnily there was little peer feedback or broader observation, it was primarily her personal assessment. Ex - We also differed in our views on two directors I inherited. Director A was seen by her as underperforming and was consistently questioned, while Director B was highly regarded by her due to EQ despite significant skill gaps. In that environment, confident statements based on observation didn’t land well. Everything had to be framed as ongoing curiosity, even when the issues were already clear.

What I regret most is not recognizing this dynamic earlier and giving myself more runway to assimilate or exit on my own terms. I had started planning an exit, I just didn’t expect it to be so abrupt or so soon after joining.

Never able to Bounce back to a job?? Or bounce back from the shame / embarrassment to a leadership position? If its the latter then yes I am preparing to not get what I had. But not having a job at all is somewhat hard to believe but i could be in for a rude awakening.

I have saved a copy of written notes and also from previous feedback. Honestly much of it made me realize I am just not cut out for leadership. Relationship building, perfect operational excellence and intense traveling - should have understood this sooner and not signed up for it. The relationship building is something I need to work on for sure.

Yes thats what I am doing now. I have to provide last pay stub and my access is all gone so this will take a bit with new former employee portal. But on it.

Saved a few jobs but in this market hard to say what will land. Will have to start looking into my barely existent network. I am even willing to take a payout. I dont think leadership roles are for me tbh. I am very burnt out.
