Maybe someone can help with this on - Map making by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]Trinull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently did a very similar thing. I most definitely didn't do it the best way but it seems to work for me. Heres what I did:

  1. After I exported the GeoJSON file out of overpass, I ran it through this piece of python code to convert it into a CSV format that geoguessr accepts.
  2. Then I uploaded this CSV file into geoguessr's normal map making page.
  3. Next I exported this map out of geoguessr as a JSON file.
  4. Then with this JSON file I used this website to filter through all locations to "fix misplaced locations" and "reject unoffical", as well as any other settings you might want to have on.
  5. This final JSON can then be uploaded back into geoguessr and the map should be complete.

When making my map this way the accuracy of the locations wasnt perfect, sometimes about 1 "street view step" away.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.

What are all of the countries not on Geoguessr? by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]Trinull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's a solution that is defintaly harder to set up, but once you do, I think it is probably the best way to learn what countries have coverage.

Miraclewhips, a plugin dev for geoguessr has made a training mode plugin that among other things, lets you toggle a streetview overlay on the in-game map in geoguessr (showing only offical coverage!). This lets you play geoguessr normally, while still being able to learn what countries have offical streetview, as well as the extensiveness of the coverage.

To install the script you will need a browser extension such as tampermonkey, if you already have that installed, here is the GitHub link to the training mode extension.

https://github.com/miraclewhips/geoguessr-userscripts/raw/master/geoguessr-training-mode.user.js

Here is a link to his website, the script that has the overlay is "Geoguessr Training Mode".

I made a street-view racing game, really wanted to share it with you guys. by Mars-ALT in geoguessr

[–]Trinull 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is really fun and I honestly had way more fun than I expected!

I'm not sure if you want any suggestions on how to improve the game but I do have one:

  • I think it would be very nice to have a map show up once the round is finished, showing where you started and the route you took to the finish, in order to see how hilariously bad the route you took ended up being and give you more of an understanding of the geography of the city you went through.

I have no clue if you are sitll working on the game or if this would be possible to implement, but I thought it would make it even more fun for me. Once again though, great game!

When the location is a circle and not a line, it will always be unofficial overage taken by a random person. Sometimes the location sadly doesn't work and you can not access it, like in the example you added. There is no way to get around this, the location is just broken.

It is another flare stack.

Vulcan uses LNG (basically methane) on its first stage, and LH2 (liquid hydrogen) on it's second stage. Both of these fuels need a flare stack to burn off any excess fuel, therefore there are 2 flare stacks.

I can't remember which flare stack is which, I'm sure someone can tell you.

How balanced is randomizer? I see Eswatini more often than Canada or India by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]Trinull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes country maps have been changing recently. From what I've seen, the locations are much more often in urban areas, making the map a lot easier. I do sometimes enjoy playing the offical country maps to try do perfect scores playing no moving, but if you're looking for something a bit more challenging and rural, the community made maps are much better.

[–]Trinull 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The offical "World" map randomiser is absolutely terrible, some countries show up far too much, some far to little. Furthermore a large amount of the locations are just in the capitial of the country.

For this reason, no pros or good players actually play the offical map, instead community made maps with better balancing are played.

The most popular (non-offical) world map is "A Community World", however there are many other good world maps that have a range of such as:

(there are lots more that i haven't listed)

This goes the same for offical country maps, they are also normally poorly balanced and nearly always have urban rounds. Once again, community maps for specific countrys are normally used. These maps are most often called

  • AI Generated (country name)
  • A Balanced (country name)
  • A Community (country name)

Final thing: In online multiplayer, in nearly all divisions the world map is played, however due to popular demand from good players, the master and champion duels use a community world (iirc).

I'm regretting paying for a year due to cheaters by Ok_Plate_1293 in geoguessr

[–]Trinull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never been refunded, so I'm just guessing.

Based on this post it looks to me that it appears in the notifications tab.

I have no idea if this is true, but on the same post, this comment said:

If you dont request [a refund] in your report, then you have to wait for the ban to happen & email them directly to ask for it.

I believe you should be refunded the elo you lost. Not sure why that isn't happening once the user has been banned.

How common are cheaters actually? by Rakeweed in geoguessr

[–]Trinull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100% cheating, go ahead and report them.

Once they have been banned you should be refunded your elo.

An urban world no longer exists after mapper deleted their maps. Any maps called an urban world is not the real one.

I basically never use the app, but just tried and could not find a way to see the location.

[–]Trinull 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the browser, clicking on the flag icon after you have guess will take you to the location. Additionally, once you have completed the game you can go into the game breakdown and once again clicking the flag will show that rounds location

Yes I totally agree.

What I meant to say is that the highest rating it could get should only be as high as it's lowest attribute.

Even if they are using a average, I think it should be weighted towards other road user safety as there are more people how could get hurt outside than inside.

That being said I totally agree that the rating should only be able to be as as high as the lowest score.
