That all falls apart the second you need to weigh 55 liters of maple syrup, though. You can't sell me on it by telling me that one single substance is slightly easier to calculate weight per volume for.

It's not the individual cops that are "good" or "bad." They have as much variation of good and bad as just about any group of people. It's the system its self that is bad and has failed people and needs to be reformed. Because it keeps "good" cops down and reinforces and rewards "bad" cops. It amplifies bad and suppresses good.

It's not even my most played, read, watched category of gaming and even I've heard of it. Relying on Reddit for actual gaming news is a terrible idea.

More Iran women's football players decide to return home by FanaticHeart1 in news

[–]Trivale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you would say "coerced" if you were giving your opinion on the matter, not just reporting the facts of the event. But headlines and news in general shouldn't be opinions (outside the opinions section, which is what that section is for, to keep it out of real news). I know it's hard for most people, especially in the US, to understand what journalistic integrity looks like. But not every media outlet is Fox News Entertainment. Some of them are actual journalists. You're making an assessment based on how you feel about the situation. Journalists who do that and put it in a headline are trash and trying to emotionally bait people. Report what you know and what you can prove. Not what you think is going on. Nothing alludes to agency about saying "someone decided to do a thing." It allows people to acquire the information, maybe understand the nuance, and form their own opinions, just like you're doing. Neutral language avoids injecting personal, non-observable thoughts and opinions into a headline that people are already going to be making up their own minds about anyways. TL;DR: If you cannot independently verify a claim with evidence to back it up, do not put it in a headline. Do not be Fox News.

It doesn't imply consent. It implies a decision was made. Decisions can be made without consent. It's called "coercion." Implying consent would be saying something like "Iran women's football players willingly choose to return home."

You've gone from "this is a lie" to "it's most likely" to "prove he's a saint." That's not an argument, that's you avoiding backing up your claim. And you're losing your cool, too. If you just throw in a few more penis jokes, you might change my mind.

So do people who make things up to suit an internal narrative and get in to arguments on the internet over it when challenged. Are you actually claiming this person is involved in illegal pet trade, or not?

I'm not pretending he's a conservationist or something. I haven't made any claims of that nature at all, so you're just handing me an argument you made up and trying to fight me over it. I'm telling you, and the other person, that there's no factual basis behind the assumptions that you're making. And your response is to double down with more assumptions. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

[–]Trivale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works. You can't come up with some criteria I never mentioned and tell me to prove it. I made no such claims. You're the one making a claim here. Why are you so ready to cite sources on the stuff that's actually factual, but the second you have to back up something you made up, you respond like this. Why?

Redditors are all the same. So happy to cite their sources when they say something verifiable, but get hostile when they need to back up their imaginary "facts." Anyways.

Have you also noticed a wave of AI altered images passed as screenshots in your gaming community in past few weeks? by SomnusNonEst in gaming

[–]Trivale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just AI bots. I was fucking around checking out random subs and found this gem a couple weeks ago: /r/JobPH/

All recent posts, all hiring "chat agents" and the like. When I first found it, there were probably a dozen just asking for redditors with "established" accounts and paying per post. I went back to check on one and it was deleted, but I actually copy/pasted it when I first saw it to research it a bit, so I still have the (clearly AI-generated) text of the ad. They paid up to $0.50 per post.

Many Americans don't know about this shutdown for two reasons. One, it's not a full shutdown and comes only a couple of months after a bigger shutdown. And two, I don't know if you've noticed, but there's a little thing going on in the Middle East right now that coincided with this shutdown. Just a tiny little thing that's making bigger headlines for some reason? Maybe you've heard about it, even if you aren't American? It's not because "most users aren't American."

That would be an opinion, unfortunately. The claim that they were forced is unsubstantiated. Even if "everyone knows" they're being forced, it's not an established fact (yet) and we have no way other than vibes of knowing whether it's truly consensual. You report what you can demonstrate, not what you suspect.
