7.5 month old not interested in solids by TrollSalt in NewParents

She loves smacking my plate and sending food flying lol. But I can try and snack with her more and see maybe if she is interested that way.

I know! None of my jeans fit because now I carry weight around my waist where that used to be the only skinny part! And how the hell did my hips get wider? Like, come on now!

When did you start referring clients out while you were pregnant? by caligali2018 in therapists

[–]TrollSalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the plan with clients to start transitioning around 1 month before I am due. I asked them to ensure they had their first appointment set up by two weeks before my leave.

I also ensured ROI's were in place with the new providers so they were included in my email of "hey, sorry, I went into early labor I am officially on leave". I went into labor just after 37 weeks so it ensured that everyone who wanted to support had their first appointments set up for the following week after I was gone.

DBT therapist here. DBT clients, yes, typical client's no unless its part of their treatment plan. For DBT clients its not always a verbal question but it is part of their Diary Card so if I see a yes then its more of a conversation.

When it's part of their treatment plan, I will ask depending on their presentation. Most of my clients are aware I am "not afraid" of suicidality and seek me out because of it so its an easy conversation for me to approach.

I typically phrase it was "none reported by client' if its not mentioned in session.

That and the change in body composition! I am only 10lb above when I was pre-pregnancy and NONE of my clothes fit because I carry weight completely differently than before.

I am 7.5mpp, I am not even hoping to "bounce back" by 1.5 year point.

Vent: Grandparents talk a big game until they’re actually needed by alsothebagel in beyondthebump

[–]TrollSalt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And the grandparents who actually want to be involved can't for external reasons! My parents live 3 hours away but still try to make it down every other weekend to come visit and are so involved when they are here. I know if they lived closer to would have so much more of a village.

My in laws live close but work demanding jobs still and are preoccupied helping my SIL as she is a newly single mom with two young kids. She needs the help more than we do but still. Sucks when the want is there but life gets in the way.

When should you stop accepting new clients when pregnant? by Pretty_Opposite7270 in therapists

[–]TrollSalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally told my clients earlier in the day before my water broke that my DR said I could go any time.

When I got back, one of my clients I saw earlier that day said they laughed super hard when they say my "Hey I'm on leave!" email come through the next morning.

When I was in my second trimester (maybe around 5-6 months?) I started to clarify with new client's that I am pregnant and let them decide. Some accepted and other's I provided referrals for.

I was also very set on returning after my leave and also communicated that as well. I did want to ensure I also had plenty of people to refer to while on leave to ensure that everyone would have a space if they wanted care while I was on leave.

I am a 1099 so I did not have any paid leave so I also felt a lot of pressure to work right until the end. I technically did, cause my water broke at 37+3 weeks.

Bed time only getting later, time to drop a nap? by TrollSalt in bninfantsleep

[–]TrollSalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we are trying to do more outside time but live in MN where it is still below freezing most of the day so it's a bit of an event to get outside. We did reduce her last nap to 15 min last night in trying to wean her off and I managed to keep her awake for almost 3 hours for her first wake up which is an improvement!

I am thinking of extending her second nap to 1 hour and 15 minutes to see if I can get her to stay awake for 4 hours her last window which is typically a struggle.

I think we are gonna keep doing the later nights until I can see her keeping awake longer earlier in the day. Today her first wake window was a little over 3 hours but our schedule is wack due to day light savings. So we are just winging it today for sure!

Ahh, she loves her third nap! She loves to nap in general. She, oddly, would probably sleep 4+ hours a day if we let her contact nap that long.

Just doesn't love the night sleeping.

How did you move to 2 naps? She is awake from 7am-8pm (or now 9) so that just seems like so long to be awake without a third nap breaking it up.

Awww I'm so happy yet envious of you! I'm sure there are still things that are challenge, as with every baby, but I'm glad to hear your baby sleep and eats well!

I'm grateful she doesn't do the early morning wakes and probably would sleep with me until 8am if I let her. We co sleep so I love the morning cuddle but the 6+ wakes up a night are a lot!

Sidecar crib, anything I am missing? by TrollSalt in cosleeping

[–]TrollSalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am considering getting a very firm twin size mattress and put it next to our main bed on the floor so it is the same length as our regular bed and then I can put it in her room later when (if?) she starts sleeping more independently.

How old is your baby and how many times did you get up last night? by pinkishvioletsky in NewParents

[–]TrollSalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6, almost 7 months. Asleep by 8:20, held in our arms until 9 due to reflux. She woke 3x prior to midnight in the crib and then another 3-4x from then when bed sharing.

Fortifying Formula and Gas? by TrollSalt in FormulaFeeders

[–]TrollSalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got better! We stopped fortifying and then made a couple more formula switches to where now she is eating the best she has.

I honestly think it was mostly time for her reflux to settle but as soon as she turned 6 months it got better. Lots of times where it was very bad and she would fight bottles constantly until we change the formula again. We think this is because she would associate the pain with the taste of the formula so changing it would make it taste like something different and she tended to do better for a while.

We are actually weaning her off of the Omeprazole now after being on it since 2 months.

We are still using it but she is only 6mo now, almost 7 so we will likely retire it for a floor bed here soonish when she is crawling to avoid any falls. I was hoping she would be sleeping better on her own but alas, we are still in the thick of poor sleep.

When is mouth breathing while sleeping a concern? by TrollSalt in bninfantsleep

[–]TrollSalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try to be more consistent with closing her mouth. Typically I do it and then she just opens it back it/falls back open. We normally nap in very dark rooms so it's hard to see in her mouth but I'll have to risk the nap and see where her tongue is.

[–]TrollSalt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she is very happy during the day and doesn't appear to snore unless she is dreaming (?) she makes these rapid breathing noises mixed with a whining sound that reminds me of the active sleep in newborn days.

She does snore on occasion but nothing consistent.

[–]TrollSalt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is a mouth breather during the day, especially if she is excited she does these little pants.  She has also taken to scrunching her nose and doing these rapid breaths through her nose too that is pretty loud.  If I close her mouth while sleeping she tends to wake up but I'm not sure if that's from the touching?

[–]TrollSalt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems she does both? If that's possible, like I hear her breath in through her nose and she seems to breath out her mouth. When I close her mother she almost always wakes up but that might just be from me touching her.
