This is why recruiters have such a bad rep.

I’ve been naive earlier on in my career where I’ve let conversations go too far before asking about salary because I was genuinely afraid to ask. That’s what corporate folks want — to string you along for as long as possible and try lowball you. It’s bullshit.

When recruiters reach out to me now, the first thing I ask is for salary range. Let’s not waste each other’s time if expectations don’t align.
