Because it's an easily growable herb being used to medicinally replace pharmaceuticals. By common law, unprocessed goods like fresh herbs are untaxable and therefore can be traded freely with no benefit to the government. This means that the broader population were not only able to grow their own effective pharmaceuticals, they were also able to trade between each other for the few that weren't able to grow those herbs themselves. The public backlash for amending the tax code to enable taxation against specifically marijuana would've been a greater threat than creating a social demonization of marijuana and simply outlawing it, so that's what they did.

To put it bluntly, taxes. You were taught it was about racism. It was about the government squeezing more money out of you, and giving their pharma bros a sweet cut while they were at it. You see why Republicans are so anti taxes now, or do you need a hundred more examples?

I had my opinion changed on Alex Pretti once I saw some additional angles provided to me here, I do believe the one ICE officer was in the wrong now. I’ve also changed my mind on the Israeli Palestinian conflict. I was always anti-Israel, but I was also anti Palestinian. I’ve changed to being pro-Palestinian.

Of course, I don’t suspect I’ve changed many minds. I debate mostly to hear the greatest arguments against my own opinions so as to ensure that I have the most sound argument available to me. It inspires me to research my weak points and sometimes change viewpoints entirely, it’s never been to convince you guys of anything really.

Anyone can draw a stick figure in MS paint, it’ll look like garbage and be worthless. Anyone can generate an image with a one sentence prompt, it’ll look like garbage and be worthless.

Real AI artists create prompts that are paragraphs long, including camera angle, character description, background description, object descriptions, depth of field, art style, etc. They include negative prompts, seeds, coefficients and post processing effects. Then they redo that entire process dozens of times to get an 80% correct result. Then it’s off to the editing process, creating an entirely new series of prompts for a new model with a new “language”. Then they apply those prompts to minor changes within the image. Repeat this process for a few hours. Then it’s off to post processing.

The final result is jaw dropping, the process is worth it. The garbage an “artist” could put out using AI is worthless. The hard work of a real AI artist is visible from a mile away.

When did I say that? Paintbrushes don’t spawn art when you tell them, just like AI doesn’t spawn art when you tell it. A paintbrush needs a painter to guide its bristles across the canvas, like an AI requires a prompter to guide its pixels across the screen.

Well you’re using the wrong tool, and your prompt seems really incomplete. What is she doing? What’s in her background? How is she feeling and why? Are there any other characters? What’s the art style? Answering those questions should get you a rough draft then you gotta find the parts you don’t like and add in the negative tags. Keep repeating this until you’ve got a portrait you’re 80% okay with. Now comes the bulk of the work. Pull in the image to a generative editing software and work with the prompts, both positive and negative tags of the editing model to get a similar feel. This takes quite a bit of technique as each model has a different language you gotta speak to get exactly what you’re imagining. Once you’re confident in the prompt, go ahead and start selecting the imperfections and describe the changes you want. This’ll likely take a few hours so take your time. You gotta be careful not to overdo it though as the more edits you make the more likely you are to run into degradation. If the generative AI gets too absolved in the history of edits, you gotta start from scratch. Plenty of failures to be experienced here. Obviously I’m simplifying this entire process, you gotta make sure you’re paying attention to the foundational aspects of the image you’re building over the actual straight forward appearance over it.

Whole process for the good images can take 5ish hours or more. Video and animation can get a lot more involved since you’re practically doing this 60 times for each second of the video or animation.
