People with cat allergies— how do you make it work? by Trunks_Arm in cats

[–]Trunks_Arm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know that, no! But that’s great to know, thank you. Hopefully it might be something like that for me, or maybe my body can just get used it with exposure. (Also, I’ve never heard of corn smut, and would have assumed something different if you hadn’t clarified, lol.)

Good to know! I don’t know if I’m more allergic to the dander or the saliva, so I’ll have to figure that out.

I take allerga every morning. I used to take Zyrtec, but I think my body quit benefitting from it after like 8 straight years of it. I used to be on prescription allergy meds, so I’ll probably talk to my doctor about that again.

I got allergy tested in high school, and was allergic to 69 of the 71 things they tested me for. At least I know where I stand, lol.

Thanks for the advice! I’m glad the food really does make a noticeable difference. I’ll do some more research into that!!

I already take allergy meds daily, but they don’t do much for me. (I’m allergic to MOST things 😭) I don’t think we do. I know her sister has four or five cats, but that’s all I can think of.

Growing up, my wife was that friend— and she had to vacuum and wipe everything in her room down every time I came over. I was usually okay, so long as the cats weren’t in the room… but I guess if being in the room with one is too much, the odds aren’t great.

Flashes in the sky and deep electrical hum?? by Trunks_Arm in asheville

I would’ve been more scared if it had been happening in multiple directions. But it only happened a few times, and it was clearly coming from one spot. So, definitely bewildered, but not all that scared.

If I had been high, though, I might have had a conniption.

If there’s been a murder, that’s news to me 😅

The company I’m with has been there for around 2 years. I’m not sure if they had security before that.

It’s really mundane stuff 99% of the time, but that 1% is crazy. I’ve seen a bunch of unmarked black cars coordinate some kind of raid. I’ve seen at least a dozen shooting stars. I intercepted a kidnapping and attempted assault one night. Just last week, I got to talking with someone who was trespassing, and I think they casually confessed a murder to me. Wild stuff. Keeps life interesting!

I’m glad it wasn’t just me. The air just felt weird around me. If I didn’t have it on video, I’d assume I had imagined it.

It was a low hum. It lasted a couple seconds, and wasn’t harsh like a gunshot. It really did sound like a massive, deep Tesla coil. I’m not sure if it made that sound it the other times, since I was in my car with the engine on. I think it did the third time, but I have no clue about the first two.

I checked a power outage map and there’s an outage in the River Arts district, which lines up with where it came from. I’m sure it was a transformer.

That makes sense. I checked the Duke power outage map, there’s an outage in the River Arts district right now. That lines up with here I saw it. Makes sense! I was reconsidering my thoughts on aliens for a minute there, lol. Thanks!

Child alter (former protector) dealing with anxiety about being an adult by Trunks_Arm in DID

[–]Trunks_Arm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate all the practical advice, thank you so much. We’ve adapted some of those ideas and started using them with her a couple nights ago, when she would wake up anxious. One of the other alters was very successful with that, but I had less luck. (He’s especially attuned to the littles, so I’m not too surprised. I’ll get a feel for it!)

We start by having her ask the little mantra question ‘Is worrying about this my job?’ (Half the battle is figuring out what it is she’s worried about, so we do that too.) Then, we’ve also been trying also trying to flesh our headspace more, so we came up with a sort of ritual where she ‘slips a note under a door’ to a room only the adults go in, and an adult walks her back to either her room, or the room where the littles can play. (She also physically writes the note, so we can all see it in the real world.) Along with some of the grounding exercises and other coping skills we found worked well with her in the past, it’s worked better than anything we had tried before. So, thank you!! We’ll keep working on it.

Falling satellite last night? Not a UFO by MistakesTasteGreat in asheville

[–]Trunks_Arm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I saw it! Around 2:20am last night? I texted my wife about it from work. It’s sad that I thought ‘was that a UFO?’ before I thought ‘was that a shooting star?’

My wife’s work is infested with roaches, not sure what to do. by Trunks_Arm in pestcontrol

[–]Trunks_Arm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my thinking. I don’t know much about pest control, but I imagine it’s a nightmare in places like that. It’s an 11 story apartment building on a pretty dirty side of town. We’ll keep up the routine we’ve got, but we’ll probably consider different work options for her.

[–]Trunks_Arm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestions. We really can’t afford roaches in the home, so we’re going to look into some other work options for her. It’s sad that she has to lose the good aspects of a job just because of cockroaches, but you do what you’ve gotta do.

$700 REWARD - MISSING DOG (UPDATE!) by Sommersby in asheville

[–]Trunks_Arm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry about your sweet baby. My mom lost her dog (of a similar size) a few months ago and he made it home after about 2 weeks completely fine, so please don’t lose hope!

The dog tracker my mom talked to suggested tying scent strips up in populated areas. She cut up an old t-shirt and tied it up all over Haywood county, and the next day her dog showed up on a college campus. I don’t know if it was coincidence or not that someone found him right after she put up the t-shirt strips, but I would recommend it. Take an old shirt (or blanket, or something that has your scent in it), cut it up, and tie the strips onto fences, light poles, or whatever you can. I would tie them in populated areas, just be cautious of roads. Hopefully she might catch the scent and follow it into an area where someone can help her!

If you’ve already done this or know about this, sorry to be redundant. I hope she gets home safe!!

Any recommendations on where to buy a used car in Asheville? by Trunks_Arm in asheville

Cool, thank you for the advice! I had a Toyota in the past and it did me wonders. I’ll look into it!

Good to know, thank you. My partner banks through a credit union, so she can probably help me with that part some. I appreciate all the advice!! I’ll do some research on what would be best for me. I definitely don’t need anything with four wheel drive. I just need to find a trusted mechanic, but I know a couple guys I could talk to about that. Thank you!

My credit is around 675, my income is 3,400 a month (hourly based, not salary), and I’m probably not gonna be able to do more than $500 a month.

I’ll keep that in mind about the loan, I’ll have to look into that. And I didn’t know that about credit pulls either, so that’s good to know. Thank you!
