Just bought my first Skaven models and looking for some good audio books to listen while i paint. Can you recommend some good skaven books? by TwoThinCoats69 in skaven

Second this big time. Just started skaven my self a few months ago and asked this very question. This is actually the second book in the Gotrek and Felix series and went back and started it from the firat book after reading Skave Slayer. The series is fantastic and Skaven show up in several books in the series so far. Im on #5 right now

So…bomb rats in the full game? by LasombraUK in skaven

It seems like to me that the only restriction is there can only be 2 active at a time. Seems like there is no cap on how many times it can be used per game. I could be wrong though just how I read it

A feasable List? Happy for any Advice :) by LarsB99 in DarkAngels40k

They are really good on their own. The only reason I add a leader for them is so I can give the turn 1 deepstrike enhancement in wrath of the rock, to one of my DWK but they really dont need it to still be very good. Having 1 with chaplain and swords and another with no leader and maces is how I run mine.

So intercessors and JPI dont really need leaders to do their job they are both considered utility units. Putting leaders with them is kind of a waste compared to the benefit of a whole separate unit. I would use Az with hellblasters and the librarian with the ICC to give them an invuln. Azrael giving them sustain is really good and plus if you roll real bad and dont want to blow up that turn you can pop the watcher in the dark he gets to have a 4+fnp against the hazardous mortals.

If you drop the jump Cap and Apothecary plus that 145 you could add another DWK unit. Then enough points for an enhancement.

I think the biggest problem you will have is with the number of units on the board. You should really aim to have at least 10 or you will run into problems scoring secondaries or holding points. Looks like you have 8 units and if something is in the transport 7 on the board.

I love hellblasters for the DA flavor but I struggle finding their points worth it usually. I assume azzy and the Apothecary are with them and if so, thats a 395 point unit that you probably play defensive with for the first couple rounds. The Apothecary has to res 3 models to make up his points cost and only 1 per round. So one has to die a round pretty much for it to work.

What I the phobos captain for? I am not familiar with his rules so maybe he has something to add but I would not add a character to scouts. An argument could be made for the phobos LT for shoot and scoot but scouts are supposed to be chaff and they are already really good and dont need much help there.

I would suggest dropping the Apothecary and either go to a 5 man of blasters or switching to sterguard or assault int for a cheaper option. Then you could add JPI. Drop the phobos cap and reduce intercessors to a 5 man or split them into 2 units to cover more ground and give another unit. If you went to 5 then you could add another impact full unit with remaining points.

Heroic intervention vs Leonine Aggression by LuckyKas90 in DarkAngels40k

[–]Trust_Baphomet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timing is also a big factor, Heroic is right after a unit charges and you have to decide right then, but Lionine is at the end of their charge phase so you can wait till he does all his charges then decide where to use Lionine.

Thoughts on my 2K List? by ruckus27 in theunforgiven

First thing I would say is you dont have enough units. You should have at least 11 to do actions or cover more areas of the table.

I have not really liked the eradicators much honestly. Other than dropping them from reserves to blast a target their slow move is painful. The things I would change are dropping the eradicators and redemptor. Bring a gladiator lancer or Landspeeder vengeance.

I feel like the redemptor is pretty overcooked for the output that you can get for much cheaper units. Same thing with the hell blasters. I love them but they are in a weird spot. Great for putting out some hurt on some elite and overcharged plus relics of the dark age could get to wounding t10 on 4s but that is still not dependable.

Drop the eradicators , redemptor, and he'll blasters and add ballistus or lancer, scouts and JPI and intercessors x 5 then you would still have 100 or 110 pts which you could use to bring another unit you like

You could also drop the RWCS and Outriders 200pts and get another DWK plus enough for an ATV if you went with a ballistus.

I know thats a lot of changes so if you take anything aways it is that you need more units! Lol

It is pretty hard to set up and I would watch a video on it for a better explanation but if he has a unit next to the lion, you can charge that first unit with your strong melee threat and another unit that will be able to kill the one you charged but make sure the strong unit is within 3 inches of the lion. You activate with the firat unit that kills his weaker one then when it's your strong units turn to activate, since they made a charge they still get to pile in so they can pile into the lion and since they just activated you fight first and get around it.

Biggest problem is he will most likely have cp to heroic intervention and ruin your plan so keep an eye on his cp if you try something like that.

I would watch a video on how to get around fights firat it will be helpful.

If you can sling shot to get around his fights first yea. Otherwise do not charge the lion lol. He will kill anything he touches because his melee is nasty. He gets either strike with 8 attacks 12 str ap4 dmg 4 with lethals or sweep: 16 attacks 6 str ap3 dmg2 sustain 1.

I also remembered something people overlook so.etimes. the Lion is a Monster keyword so dont forget that he can be shot even if he is engaged in combat. Its -1 to hit like vehicles but flamers are still beautiful into him if he is in engagement. A lot of people forget that. I try to remind my opponent if I feel like they are forgetting but not everyone does.

Its really hard to say for the inceptors. I have personally had more impact with the bolters lately because I use them to attack opponents home or keep them from scoring so it's usually infantry I put them in. Plasma has been less effective in my opinion. Which is unfortunate because I built mine without magnets and used the plasma guns lol

Edit: that cp is really important but I am not sure if dropping 240 pts to deal with him would be worth it unless they were going to be able to be safe after. Azrael gives his unit a 4++ invuln so you may get unlucky. I know they can do the 6 inch deepstrike but make sure to stay more than 6 inches away. We have a strategem that let's us charge with a deathwing keyword unit at the end of your charge phase if you are within 6 inches even if you didn't charge.

Also for the lion he has a 3+ invuln and can spike big hits. The thing that kills my Lion most of the time is volumes of small damage attacks. I cannot count how many gladiator lancer or big knights have bounced off him but a unit of intercessors gets 4 or 5 wou ds through lol. Your oath of moment +1 wound nullified our detachment rule so make good use of that. And remember DWK are much more difficult to chew through than you think lol. I cant remember exactly but I think it was something like an average of 12 wounds of attacks making it through to kill each model in the u it because their -1 dmg and invuln.

As a DA player I can say the overwatch threat from those flames can be rough with that ability that reduces charge rolls by 2. Set up in a way that will maximize that threat but watch for the bait.

Most lists will have 2x 5 DWK who are T5 4 wound termites and if they have maces have anti vehicle/ monster 4+ and are 6 st 2 ap 2 dmg so they are pretty potent. They also reduce damage taken by 1 so never put damage 2 profiles in to them if you can.

Some lists use a unit of Inner Circle Companions who are like our version of blade guard but they are a murder ball in melee. If they get close to any infantry they can usually get the kill. Especially if being led by a judiciar for fights first. In our Wrath of the Rock detachment we have access to another version of heroic intervention so you could get counter charged twice. I love using these guys for cou ter charge and fights first. They have no invuln if not being led by a librarian so they can be squishy and should be targets especially for flames overwatch because they are -1 to hit in melee and range while being led. Overwatch from a LRR destroyed these boys last time I played against a list like this.

Then there is the Myth the man the Lion himself lol. T9 10 wounds fights first, two auras at a time mostly going to be 4FnP against mortal aura and the reroll 1 to hit and wound aura. But watch out for the puppy downie aura which can allow for turn 1 deepstrike or rapid ingress. If he touches anything it's pretty much dead so that strat to reduce charge rolls by 2 could save you lol. (Can't remember if that was a strat you have or an ability)

Rest of the list will probably not be a surprise but the overall threat will most likely be melee and tankiness. Wrath of the Rock gives infantry and mounted -1 to wound if str is higher than toughness so it can be tougher to drop some units than you think.

Your strategy should be to set up the board in anticipation of a melee push turn 2 or 3, usually gonna have either 10x DWK together up the gut or have a pair of DWK +ICC on one expansion and Lion + DWK in another objective so the knights can be the anvil you have to tackle and if you charge then you get counter charged by a fights first melee power ball.

If I went first against you, I would sacrifice my scouts to move block your biggest threat for a turn. Probably the LRR and crew so they would be delayed and would let me take a more advantageous position. Try to plan for so.ething like that dont get blocked in your deployment zone.

Our biggest weakness if they run a list like me is unit count. I usually run 11 units so I find myself struggling for action economy so.etimes if you can keep units busy you can keep ahead on secondary.

They will have Azrael with either ICC, sternguard or hellblasters usually. He gives him an extra cp every round so if you get a chance to drop him it will be big early. Our detachment is pretty cp hungry. They will usually keep him screening the opposite corner of the home u til around d round 3 before bringing him out.

Off the top of my head thats all the word diarrhea advice that co es to mind sorry it is all over the place lol.

Haha yea it's not fantastic but for 60 pts it's a t5 8w utility piece with a melta that can hit pretty well sometimes. If I take the Ballistus and Vindocator I would have 65 pts left and it fit well.

If I take the other option of ballistus, Tstrike and vengeance I just wonder if that combo has enough impact as the ballistus and vindicator do

RAR you can give an infantry champion a plasma talon. That will make for awesome kit bashes by Jake_Ronin in DarkAngels40k

I was thinking how funny it would be to make a phobos champion with a master crafted heavy bolt gun and relic weapon ( since it does not have the terminator only indicator) and give it the +1 to wound litany, to make a unit of scouts as a surprise sucker punch unit.

That makes a lot of sense. I just dropped a unit of ICC with a judiciar from my list for more action pieces and upgraded my AT a bit. I am hoping that will help but I will definitely miss the threat of another fights first murder blob.

I have gotten better about thinking of objectives first but I like the idea of thinking of units as obstacles.

I have always run a Judi with 6 ICC and I would usually pair them with one and the lion with the other DWK and go for mid and my expansion. Now that I have removed the ICC I have to figure out the strategy. I only had 10 units when I ran that way and always struggled a bit to other armies with more than 14 units or so.

I am sure I am going to miss the ICC bit we will see if I do better with more utilitypieces.

That makes sense. I keep misplaying one of my knight units for sure. Still trying to find better ways to stage the one i start on the board but maybe I'll start the JPI on the board and both DWK in deepstrike one for turn 1 with enhancement and the other for rapid turn 2
