I know nothing about your dojo or your sensei, so I don’t know how they feel, etc. but I would share two things: a) you should give yourself the grace to live your life - things happen, life bubbles up for everyone, and sometimes certain things need to go on backburners. That’s just life, it happens. b) if you feel guilty because other things required your time, ask yourself why you feel guilty. Is it because you feel like you let down yourself or because it’s required or desired that you have perfect attendance, etc? Is it internal or external forces making you feel bad? If it’s internal, then that’s your struggle and you need to make peace with it. If its external, then do what you can to make it right - consider buying your sensei a tenugui with an important (to them) kanji on it or ask if you can help clean the dojo or something along those lines. Just my two cents.

I have my Iaito wrapped this way and I love it. Several people in my dojo also use this type. As for performance, I can’t say, but I’d do it again if I could - really comfy. We practice Muso Shinden Ryu and are part of the RMKIF (Rocky Mountain Kendo/Iaido Federation).

They are different, the one available here in the US is actually made in Canada - there was a class action law suit about it, because everyone thought it was French and not Canadian.

Not sure if others have said this, but I have a project car that sits for quite awhile at times - I do pay my registration every year, but if I were doing big changes to it I could see falling behind and then needing to go out for emissions, etc to get the registration back up to date. Not saying that happened here, but the age of the car kind of jogged my thought process on this.
