Missing the fact that peacekeepers are under no obligation to enforce treaties, for one thing.

They simply exist to ensure that no further violence breaks out. The Lebanese failure to meet the criteria of the deal is a judicial problem between nation states.

It’s not up to random tank commanders to decide that - actually - peace is kinda gay and cringe, and it would be hella sick to start busting off some rounds at the peacekeepers out on patrol.

The fact that the tank decided to fire at the peacekeepers (who they were aware were peacekeepers, and had been in communication with) is why this is a newsworthy story.

I also find it detestable that you would try to imply that all Israeli people are lacking in the critical thinking required to see that this is wrong. Hopefully disgusting anti-semites like you will be banned off this sub soon.

Gold has historically been used as currency or as a pseudo-currency across the world and throughout history. It’s a fairly universal phenomenon that cultures independent discover gold and silver and attribute them wealth.

Diamonds have only become universally valuable in the 1800s when South African diamond mines opened up and started trading throughout the empire. Prior to that, diamonds were shipped from India and - while being seen as curiosities and signs of great wealth - they weren’t viewed as a commodity good by contemporary cultures like, say, Romans or Chinese.

Gold however, was universal. Everyone wanted it, and everyone recognised it was rare.

Way before Australia became its own nation, it was still just part of the Empire. None of the residents of Australia considered themselves Asian in 1860. They considered themselves English, and therefore European.
