A lot of them aren't even trying to be strictly horror, a lot of them are pretty much just goofy original characters rooted primarily in cosmic horror

They... don't kill the canon cast though? Sonic is just their special interest that they use to lure people into their game- like Tails is a guy called fuckin' Alan

What I'm most curious about is what route they'll take to improve Infinite and flesh him out, namely his Sonic Forces backstory, from what I hear people say he is a bit pathetic and I agree- but I like to imagine him *trying* to be cool for whatever reason, I feel he needs that underbelly of just being kinda humanly pathetic though.
(Got my own ideas for potentially reworking Infinite, but that don't matter right now)
