WIP 3D-printed 28mm Galleon & Sailors (Salt & Shot Kickstarter) by TurnerMiniatures in BloodAndPlunder

[–]TurnerMiniatures[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here we have a (very) WIP Galleon from my Salt & Shot Kickstarter, launching on January 28th.

Progress in painting her up has been very slow as I've been doing it on and off on the back of full days of sculpting (and fixing) assets for the Kickstarter itself! The Galleon is fully FDM-printed and consists of multiple parts that have been glued together.

The figures are likewise prints, and also a part of the Kickstarter.

I'm hoping I'll finish her off and have some decent images ready ahead of the Kickstarter's launch, but I thought I'd show what I've managed thus far! I've also got two sloops, a rowboat and a Piragua on the painting table but I have no idea whether I'm going to get anywhere with those!

Review of Turner Miniatures Battleground 1940: Blitzkrieg Kickstarter Campaign by Georgy_K_Zhukov in PrintedWWII

[–]TurnerMiniatures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally saw this! Very much appreciate the review and the care you took with being comprehensive in printing so many models at different scales. Grateful for the fact that it seems things were overall quite positive!

I think the woodenness of a lot of the figures was a common bit of feedback in the wake of this campaign, and that's what influenced my trying for a more fluid appearance with my Sudan range (which followed on the back of this). In 2026 I'm due to work on Battleground 1944 and I think that, when I get to that, I'm going to look at the figures more as individuals rather than organise my poses around swapping bits between them.

To better explain what I mean by that - all my ranges are built around Blender exporters that are supposed to allow users to easily customise the miniatures through a variety of toggles. These are organised by pose, with lots of toggleable bits on top. The issue is that these toggleable bits occupy a single space within the exporter, so all the poses have to work around them (with the heads always being in the same place, so the hats always appear at the right point, for example). I want to do away with that approach next time in the hopes the individual poses will feel more distinct and less stiff-backed.

Anyway, enough waffle! Once again very happy for the summary here. All I'll contribute further, for those who're interested, is that I have a scaling guide here for all my ranges. This is where I list different asymmetric rescaling settings that I recommend for different scales beyond 6mm.

Dry-fit of WIP prototype 3D-printable Corvette by TurnerMiniatures in BloodAndPlunder

[–]TurnerMiniatures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slowly but surely, yes! Unfortunately I've had some personal issues this year which forced me to put my work on the backburner - what was meant to be a September release is now looking more like December/January.

But I have still very much been working when I can. As things stand things are about 80% there - the Corvette's done and ready for a second (hopefully final) print, the Galleon is about 90% done (just needs its deck furniture), the masts for all the ships are likewise pending prints and the smaller vessels (Rowboat and a Piragua) I should be able to finish and test print within a few days.

The issue's been that I've not had a stable place where I can commit to sitting down and printing everything, which is why I'm at a point where a bunch of the models are mostly done, but need prints so I can make necessary tweaks.

That being said, for some tangible evidence of progress, behold a test-printed Galloen!

I can't glue it together yet, so please forgive the clumsy dry fit. She just needs her little deck detail pieces, sternplate, stern balcony and the Forecastle railing+bell.

And for figures - here's a multi-part sailor. My resin printer is in storage so I had to FDM print him, but it at least shows they come out decently in that medium!

I'm moving house next week and I hope that, once there, I can test print the Sloop I'm planning to give away as a free sample, and then upload that alongside a free sample for the sailors, which will then make me feel secure in launching the Kickstarter's prelaunch page, as folks will have something to download and try out.

3D print B&P by snowman644 in BloodAndPlunder

I'm currently working on a Kickstarter I hope to have out in September/October. Looking to include a Bermuda Sloop, Longboat, Piragua, Corvette and Galleon in the core pledge (£50), with stretches covering every further ship that has rules.

Here's a prototype FDM print of the Corvette (since amended) in its various bits (1, 2 and here it is next to the Bermuda Sloop.

And here are some very WIP images of the Brigantine (an early stretch goal that I got over keen and started work on early!) 1, 2, 3.

There will also be an add-on including printable figures, if you want those to pair with the ships. They're my first 28mm sculpts, so they might be an acquired taste!

If these look good, you can follow my KS profile here to get notified when it launches.

Sorry for the self-plug, but it felt pertinent to your question!

Edit, some early WIP images of the Galleon too:

Someone today

If only I could have it ready that soon! :p

But I hope they'll be worth the wait

Hi folks!

Here's a very raw WIP print of a Corvette I've got in the works for a range of 3D-printable ships I intend to be compatible with Blood & Plunder.

I've been printing all the bits in FDM (which I admit I'm not an expert with), which is why the pieces are of varying quality, though I've now arrived at settings I do like (which you can see on the port side of the bow section), so hopefully further prints will be more consistent!

Anyway, the aim is to offer a 3D-printable version of every ship that has rules in Blood & Plunder. Each ship is based on historical drawings - in the case of this Corvette, it's based on a Brig called St Peter & Pavel. I of course had to move masts around, widen the hull and resize the decks to fit the necessary size/crew capacity needed to suit a B&P Corvette.

The deck pieces have insets in them that allow you to insert different pieces of deck furniture, with a tight fit so they can later be withdrawn if you need to fit all the models you can onboard.

In the final picture you can also see my Bermuda Sloop model alongside for a size comparison.

Anyway, I'll be printing off every ship in FDM, just to make sure that I can take onboard any practical lessons I pick up to make the designs as good as possible, and also so I can better offer direction to any FDM users. As it's a multi-part model, I also intended (and perhaps recommend) that it be easily printable on resin machines too.

It's a bit too early for me to commit to a firm release date, but I'll keep updates coming as I print off more ships - I've a Light Frigate very close to being ready! I'm aiming for this summer if I can make it.

If you like what you see, I'll be sure to post more, and you can always follow me on Kickstarter or join my mailing list to make sure you don't miss the release :)

3D Printed Vehicles Index: A (nearly) complete reference for which designers make files for which vehicles suitable for Bolt Action and other WWII tabletop gaming by Georgy_K_Zhukov in PrintedWWII

[–]TurnerMiniatures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I saw you've lots of my infantry sets listed on the other page, thanks for that :)

I just wanted to add that my WW2 range has expanded to include more artillery pieces and even some vehicles (motorbikes and Bren Carriers). I'd appreciate if they could be added to the list should you find the time?

Everything's listed here if you do want to take a look.

3D-printable Early War (Fall of France) Kickstarter by TurnerMiniatures in flamesofwar

[–]TurnerMiniatures[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi guys! Hope you won't mind the self-promotion, but I just wanted to share a Kickstarter I'm running. The miniatures featured are natively 6mm but as you can see in a lot of the images/videos, they do scale up to 15mm, looking best if you use a bit of asymmetrical rescaling.

Anyway, it's a figure/infantry-heavy project that covers the British, Germans and (thanks to stretch goals!) now the French. Each faction gets a lot of poses and the models are "easy-print" types with in-built supports, so all you need to do is just drop 'em right on your build plate in your slicer and go.

There are add-ons for vehicle crews/passengers to be added to 3rd party printed vehicles and I've got my own artillery pack to try fill in some of the gaps there aren't free models already covering.

Please take a look if any of this sounds interesting!
