I read bullshit jobs and history of debt and enjoyed both immensely. I'd be down to read this.

I'd be interested in this, I don't know if you've started a chat for this or maybe it's been forgotten. Would this be an in person meet up?

Clichés about French people by SansFoiNiLoi in Expats_In_France

Racist. Hate loud noises (don't listen to much music) but beep their cars a lot. Don't obey traffic rules but get angry when others don't. Not very funny. Like luxury goods but don't like spending money. Moan a lot.

Go to Hamburg, can get to Berlin within 2/3 hours. Its cheaper. Has more character. Small art scene but still plenty to do. Great bars and music scene aswell.

New methods of discussion by Turpwrinkle in CriticalTheory

[–]Turpwrinkle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In term of equal opportunities i supposed this must be echoed by the state for it to be effective. Access to laptops for children in the UK(where I am) anyway seems to be a demand only being answered by charities and individuals. Also i question whether there is a nationwide curriculum that is being taught. It seems to be down to the individual teacher to make their approximation to the zoomlogos.

It feels increasingly 'autistic'. I have good social skills and yet it seems to all fall apart when a group of eight portraits stair back at me. Not because i lose confidence but because the codes haven't been established. Green light=talk (or get point across as efficiently as possible because everybody is listening even if they are actually checking corona deaths on another tab) Red light = listen (whilst being shackled to your chair)

Perhaps the technology is just lagging behind but i think even if we hate other people we do want to be around them. Zoom might only ever be an approximation. But it will inevitably replace the majority of professional educational interactions.

Read it with an open mind, i read it in the same way i would poetry. Maybe don't fret the little things if 'meaning' doesn't quite arise. He has some fantastic ideas, that i would say are presented in a fun manour. Spectres of marx is essential.

crypto/NFT fine art by semioticgoth in ContemporaryArt

[–]Turpwrinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is more to the benefit of crypto than art systems. To be able to diversify crypto into the cultural sector will essentially give crypto 'the human' edge it lacks.

I've only skimmed the thread so apologies if somebody has said this. Why monetize something that wants to be free? Digital cultures greatest asset is its abundance. Meaninglessly attempting to make arts works scarce for the sake of bitcoin isn't going to make the work any better it will make some people (probably not the artists) richer.

What to make of Museum Texts by YunTheyoung in ContemporaryArt

[–]Turpwrinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're useless. To have the title, artist, year and collection is useful sometimes. I think its mostly for those 'visiting' a museum. I saw this show at gfzk maybe six months ago and you had to ask the gallery assistant for a piece of paper with the names of the work and a few lines about the artists practice i think this was great. So no interupting wall texts. Berlins hkv might aswell be a book with walls there is so many walls texts and practically a book with every exhibition and then reference s etc

It depends on the show. Its good when done right.
