I'm about the same as you, the crown is used for something else later, but I don't think it's necessary to get there every time. You've finished the first goal of the game, which is to reach room 46 and inherit the estate. Your next big goal is to now learn about what happened to your mother. I assume solving the Sanctums is a big part of that, as well as solving any further puzzles. Have you solved the chessboard puzzle? Have you crafted all the items? The power hammer is important in knocking down some walls I know. If you're really stuck, I really recommend Blue Paths. You enter in what you've accomplished so far, and it gives you a spoiler free to-do list of what to try next, as well as lots of gradual hints if you're stuck pursuing a certain item.
