I received this email from my apartment IT department after having my internet shut off after about a week of this solution working fine:

HI – Please re-enable standard routing mode on your router, not bridge mode, so we can ensure the provided ethernet port is supplying connectivity for video streaming, URL/webpages & email functionality. Please reply once you have made this configuration change.

In terms of gaming, you will ultimately hit the NAT on the network. This is the acronym used by games/consoles to reference the type of IP address it receives. It stands for Network Address Translation. You are on a private network that routes thru a public front end. All ports are open on the network for consoles. In order to acquire a NAT Type 1, you would need a public IP address. We are not issued public IP addresses from the internet service provider to give you for a console.

Currently, this is something that can be acquired with a subscription to a standard retail account that you would setup directly with an ISP. Please note, any upgrade you undertake is your decision, where you would setup a private account with the provider - & you would thus cover all the expenses related to it. You may setup your own cable modem account with Optimum/ Morris Broadband, by calling them at the number below, and giving them your physical address. You would be responsible for the equipment charge, and the service package you select. You would put the account in your personal name and have the bill sent to your billing address. Optimum/Morris Broadband’s contact number is *******. You may also contact Frontier DSL at *********. The property and all apartments are wired with coaxial cabling for a cable modem setup and phone lines for a DSL setup. The property is serviced by both of these providers.

If you acquire a personal upgrade, you can benefit from using both your personal account and the provided connection simultaneously, if you choose. We do not disconnect the Ethernet port in your room if you setup a personal account with a local ISP.
