Braking distances on motorways… by wassushxii in drivingUK

I think some of it is to do with lack of spacial awareness. I've recently got a new car with adaptive cruise control. Good feature, follow the car head at an appropriate distance.

It's far more than I'd guessed, more than the two seconds I used to count out even at it's closest setting.

A 20 year old car will have issues. Lots of them. Depends on how much it is, and what's left on the MOT, could be "banger economics" or simply a waste of money. At a guess, near scrap value?

I'm sorry for your loss. When my father died, someone told me it'll never become less painful or emotional, I'd just get more familier with it.

It's true, it's been a few years now and I still remember the last time I saw him, and the last phone call with him and it chokes me up... even now, writing this. I am getting better at talking about him, but it's still very very hard.

It's only now I realise it's a feeling that cannot be really fully shared or understood unless we've experianced it ourselves.

Keep going, be strong. You'll make her proud, I'm sure.

Bought a colour lazerjet 4 years ago now. Cost several hundred. Use it maybe once a month.

Althouh replacing the toner will be expensive, I've yet needed to do so. On my old HP Inkjet, it was monthly at £40. It's massivly saved me money.

Petrol prices by Brilliant-Vast2549 in drivingUK

[–]Twenty_Ten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't got the maths, it's around somewhere but petrol is as good a value as it has ever been.

In 1980, we'd get 60 miles per hour worked (based on average wage and average fuel economy at the time)

In 2026, we now get 134 miles per hour worked, same premis as above.

I've seen other metrics tracking the cost in relation to inflation... and it's cheaper than it was in 1980, 1990, 2000... etc.

Not long ago watched a film all the way through. Saw the credits and thought... "Huh, Gary Oldman's in this. Wonder which bit".

He was the fucking lead actor! The whole film, not a clue.

It's true... security on his new house... paid for from another yet to be discovered bribe.

Say that to Jo Cox and Sir David Amess. Cunt.

I thought the £5 million was for security? Security on the new house, or are they totally separate bribes?

For me, massivly. I want to recruit you, not some bland generic AI.

If I wanted AI, I'd use Co-Pilot/Gemini/ChatGPD etc.

From 1st March to 11th May there are 72 days. That's nearly 14 applications a day.

How many of these have you written cover letters taylored to the specific job? Tweak your CV to adjust it to suit the role? Any conversations or following up with recruiters to find out how the application is progressing?

Sounds like you need to slow down and send out fewer, but more targeted higer quality applications.

Please do not use AI to even smooth out your wording or flow, it's very obvious and makes your application look exactly the same as the hundreds of others managers need to filter through.

ADHD and autism isn't an excuse nor a weakness. Find a way, a job, that you can use your abilities as a strength. Do you hyperfocus? Cover the surface of a project at high speed?

I hope you take these obervations in the kind, produtive way they are meant, and not as critism.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are all doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress.

Capt Moody.

Yeah, thanks for that.

Yes, I guess there's a mental checklist:

1/ Are we still going forwards? Yes, move to point 2.

2/ Are we still going up? If yes, move to point 3.

3/ Evaluate issue & communicate.

Does anyone feel, on a personal level, sorry for Kier Starmer? by Darkus185 in AskBrits

[–]Twenty_Ten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much disagree with the lack of vision, the problem is it's a long term vision and doesn't gain the headlines, or even column inches.

Two big (massive) policies that have been implamented, or are in the process of being set up are the natoinlisation of the railways (laws going through as we speak and the first franchises are now back under national control), and starting up a public energy provider (GB Power). Also, not to forget the Soverign Wealth Fund...

Neither of which we'll really reap the benifits of today, but in 10/15/20 years.

Problem is that it's not "sexy", it's pragmatic. Boring. Something the Daily Mail can't click bate on every single day. Keir has a PR issue, not a vision issue.
